What the Kids Are Saying

I don't want to look in the mirror right now. My kids' cold has decided to visit me for a day or two. I'm sure that I look like a mess. Probably not the best time for that promised vlog. Gratefully, I have some good one liners from my kids to share with you.

The kids are on a roll this week:

  • "Mommy, if I grow up to be a giant, I won't fit in my pink car!" (I'm always telling Jillian to drink her milk so she can be a giant and pat Mama on the head. She also thinks that she can buy a Barbie pink car "for real" when she's big like me.)

  • "Mom, please don't try a new recipe tonight." (You think I was offering him some freaky Fear Factor dare meal. Ooh, I'm so dangerous when I play around with potatoes!!)

  • "Mom, why do teachers want you to think so much?" (My poor 5th grader. He is allergic to thinking.)

  • "Mom likes her kisses." (They are talking about Hershey kisses. I have a stash in the cupboard.)

  • "Mom, didn't you see that hair sticking up? Were you listening to me when I asked you? I won't ask you again. (that would be nice) " (My soon to be 14 year old and his morning hair assessment. It's always fun to have a side teen attitude with my English muffin.)

Hope to visit you all soon. I need to help my 5th grader with his book project tonight. He is the king of procrastination. I'll probably need a bag of Hershey kisses to get through our brainstorming session together.

Off to get more tissues. I'll make sure to hide from that bathroom mirror!

I try not too look in the mirror period..sick or not. Things are falling apart when I am healthy;)

I get that too when I am trying a new recipe. I start hearing "Mom!! Do I have to, cook me Totino's Pizza." Like I am a restaurant.

These are the good old days!

I have grandchildren now. One classic question from the oldest one, years ago: "Grandma, why are you fat?"

Hope you get rid of the cold soon! I've just recovered from one and I also said I would do a vlog last week. Changed my mind after realising it wouldn't be a good idea to cough and splutter at my audience!!

This is a terrible cold season and I'm so sorry one has set in for you. I looked at myself in the mirror yesterday morning and wondered why I looked so awful Then it occurred to me: Oh! You are sick!

I hope that's the reason, anyway. Or maybe I just do in fact look awful.

I send you love, chocolate, and wellness wishes.

We're all sick in my house too! Not fun, and I'm trying to make a different cookie dough every day. I'm taking a break for everyone's sake.

Lot's of luck with the report!

All the best,
Flory

Ah, teenagers! Not looking forward to that age! Joseph doesn't really eat anything I make, if that makes you feel any better! Thank goodness for multivitamins...

Mmmmm - kisses in the cupboard, I need to do that. I have been snacking on the M&Ms that are for T Rex Dad's stocking. Oh, well. Guess I can get more!

I always say it, your little peanut Jillian makes me smile. She is hysterical. Has she asked for a Barbie Luxury jet yet? I saw that the other day and was in awe.

Honestly, your kids could do a comedy show all on their own. Wonderful. Hope you lose that cold very soon.

Oh, what the kids are saying can make your day. One day when one of the daughters was small she was staring out the window. I asked, "What are you looking at?" She said, "I am waiting for the cow to jump over the moon." Entertaining post.

Oh I hope you feel better soon friend. I love those kids of yours even if I haven't met them in person. I especially love that they're asking you not to mess around in the kitchen. Can't wait till mine start to understand that mom can't cook.

My son makes comments about my hair all the time. I usually brush my hair out when I am going to shampoo it and one day I had to run to the store with my curly hair all brushed out put into a pony tail - it was very bushy. My son refused to let me out of the door until I put my hair in a bun. He's 6'4 so it was hard to move him out of the door.

I'm sorry you don't feel well, but if you look on the positive (just bear with me here), by Christmas you should be as good as new!

I love when you post these-it helps me feel normal...

Love the one liners. And ummmm there actually IS a Barbie pink car. I think it's a collectible thing, but it does exist :)

It's nice to know that even when you are feeling under the weather, you can still appreciate the rich golden seams running through family life. I wish I had some of that time back with me.
Best do as you are told and stay away from the cooker, Kelly :)

I hope that you're feeling better by now.

Your kids always say the most amazing/funny/adorable things. I suppose all children have a way of cutting through the haze, and just delivering the most memorable of lines!

I am wishing you the merriest christmas and always keeping you and your beautiful family in my prayers. I always value your comments on my writing and you uplift me always. I'm grateful for having "met" you.

You should compile all of their sayings into a book. It would make for lots of smiles I'm sure once they eventually leave home. :)
