Aloha Friday!

I decided to follow my pal Kari's lead today and participate in Aloha Friday. It may be the closest I ever get to Hawaii these days :) So I'm putting on my virtual grass skirt right now.

Here's how it works. I'll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

My question: "How would you gracefully excuse yourself from a rowdy game of soccer without disappointing a bunch of boisterous 10 year old boys?"

My answer: I'm okay for the first 30 minutes of game play, but my muscles really start to feel the pain when the boys want to keep going and going. Usually, my pathetic pleas for freedom are dismissed by the happy bunch, but I figured out how to redirect their attention from me. Yesterday, just after the last goal, I yelled to the gang, "Who wants an ice pop?"

Now that I used that line already, I definitely need your help with some more mama life saving responses.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and link up at An Island Life. Happy Friday everyone! Are you doing the hula yet?

Well, since I have not a single athletic bone in my body, I wouldn't be playing soccer in the first place, LOL! I'm the happy spectator!

Happy Aloha Friday and I'm so glad you joined in.

I think I'd move to the sidelines and say with Referee authority, "Every game needs a Referee, and I'm it!" Then start calling foul, fair, that sort of thing.

Happy Friday ...

Maybe you can just get the hose out and start spraying them down? My kids are easily distracted by water. LOL

nice one grt

Maybe you could start making up your own crazy rules to the game? I tease the boys relentlessly with ridiculous rules and then we collapse in a heap of laughter... then they politely tell me to go to the side and maybe just watch them :)

HAHAH!!! Kisa's response has me rolling! I am sure that spraying them down would work quite nicely!

I love Kisa's answer! lol

I'm not sure what way I'd say it, but I'd probably just tell them I'm tired and want to rest but I'll cheer them on from the sidelines

I always just tell my daughter, that next goal wins and then I kinda let her win. That way I am done and she feels good about the game ending.

Lol that's a great question, I just say if I play any longer i'll collapse in a heap!

I like your idea--I might have to use that some day as I have three boys (who don't play soccer yet...but we'll see). On other games I've tried "I'm thirsty...lets all get a drink." Or, I've excused myself to go to the bathroom and just never returned (they usually start playing by themselves and forget I was in the game).

I noticed the morning glory painting on your sidebar...I hope you'll come answer my Aloha Friday question today, because it relates. :-)

I'll read the comments as I suspect I'll be needing an excuse in about 5-7 years!

This is about as close to Hawaii as I'll get, too. At least for a while anyway.

I might have to fake an injury, soccer is not my sport now or as a kid.

Thanks for the new follow, I returned the favor!

How about, fudgesicles for the gang. Food like watermelon and cookies can do the job also.
I would just say "Uncle" and quit.,lol.
thanks for the link.

I would yell Half Time! Then yell snacks for everyone. Then cross my fingers that the game doesn't start up again :)

Kelly, caught up in Soccer World Cup fever I stay watching to the last whistle (I've never watched a soccer match before but - what the heck! - it's Ayoba time in South Africa, and, the vibe is fantastic. Your 10 year old should be here - nothing quite beats the feelings of blowing a vuvuzela when your team scores a goal (PWAAARP!!!)

PS Great to see you on my blog again! :)

I'm definitely with Jamaicanspice. I'm great at cheering others on while I watch from the sidelines ... in any situation...grins.
