Hurricane blew in off the bus

The teen years are going to be interesting around here. My twelve year old just barked at me when I asked him about his day. He claims that I'm interrogating him. It may be difficult, but I'm learning to hold my tongue in some of these situations. Not every little confrontation requires a battle of words. As I type this post, I see him happily munching on a snack. His mood is improving. Alleluia! I didn't want to have to deal with "Hurricane Harry" for the rest of the afternoon.

Remember the tears I shed for this guy last week? A mama's heart goes through many trials apparently. How will I survive these teen years? Parenting gets trickier every day that goes by. Now I'm off to pick up my 9 year old from the bus. Hopefully, he'll want to have a pleasant 2 minute discussion with me about his day. We'll see...

I read in my potty training book that potty training may seem hard but it is a cake walk compared to the teen years. I'm beginning to believe it! Good luck! We're here for you!

I wonder every day about the teen years. I love my 12 year old son, but he can be a real pain in the butt.

My youngest turns 12 in a few weeks and she's been rolling her eyes and arguing with me for months. *sigh* Good luck to us all!

I'm with CDB - thanks for the warning! I'll enjoy all the love I can get now before we reach that age. I like that you've accepted that battles need to be chosen!

funny. i actually remember acting that way with my mom like it was yesterday.
mom: how was your day?
me: fine
Mom: you hungry?
Me:nope
Mom: do u have homework?
me: mom!!!
LOL and now my 16 year old sister is going through it.
God have mercy on me and my girls when they become teens, tweens. I have a very hard time biting my tongue.
But this too, shall pass . . .
BTW: I'd love to be tagged in a future meme (of which I still cant figure out what it stands for LOL)

I think the secret sometimes is to just let things roll right off your shoulder. My children are college age now, and this is the best phase we've ever had, doing things together as adults, with a rich history behind us. Hang in there!!

Oh dear. I am SO not looking forward to the teen years. Whenever my son just gets on my nerves by talking so much, I try to remind myself that one day, he won't want to talk to me at all. I've got to store it up now!

I, like other commenters, am not looking forward to these days. Especially if Autumn is anything like I was growing up. I was so very unkind to my parents. All I can say (which is completely without any experience) is keep your head up high and know that one day it will get better! Hugs!

Awwww...good luck with that. Entering the teen phase. He will be fine. You're a great mom. Just make sure you take some time for yourself.

Hang in there. My mom had 5 teens at the same time, and she still talks about it. One day your children will be adults with their own children and they will worship the ground you walked on! :)
