Couch time

My husband and I were TV buddies when we were first married. The two of us would sit on the couch together to watch our favorite shows. Four kids later, it is a very rare occasion when we get to cuddle that way. Around 10:30 p.m., I am finally free of dishes, cleanup, laundry, school notes, etc. That's my time to plop on the couch and watch any TV show without singing puppets or wise guy cartoon characters. My husband is usually happily snoring away on the recliner as I surf the channels for my kind of show.

Since I'm in a teasing kind of mood today, I want to share with you a time when my tired hubby and I got to sit on the couch like the old days. After being with the kids for hours and hours, I look forward to having any kind of adult conversation. So sitting with my husband, I started to talk about all sorts of things that were on my mind. He would make the occasional comment and I kept going with my ramble. About 5 minutes into this one-sided conversation, I started to feel a tightness and little pain in my chest. Nervous, I share this information with my husband. All is quiet. I look up to see that he is back in hubby snoring world, clueless that his wife may be having a medical moment. Of course, I nudged him awake and gave him a little piece of my mind. During my rant, my chest pain disappeared. Half awake, he probably didn't understand why I was getting all in a huff about a pain that most likely was indigestion. I tell him that my knight in armor was back in the castle when princess me was in distress. He is sick of hearing this story:)

I have to mention that his response time in other situations is pretty quick. You should have seen my husband fly down the stairs to try and catch the cable guy when our reception was screwed up. He zoomed up the driveway to get the cable guy before he pulled out. Sometimes you have to wonder about men and their priorities! All in all, I love him snoring and awake. Since I run the house anyway, I can see myself calling 911, getting dressed and warming up the car before waking him up to say, "Get me to the hospital, please!!"

Have a great day!

Haha! We're big TV-together watchers, and I've noticed, though, that we watch more of HIS shows than mine. Not sure how I feel about this...lol!!

I remember the days on the couch - I used to LOVE it! Now we don't have cable and our evenings are much the same as yours. I remember once laying in bed all day and doing nothing but snuggling and watching TV. Those were the days. But at least it gives me something to look forward to when our kids are grown and gone (which will be a very sad day indeed!). Thanks for sharing.

Haha! Wait, do we share the same husband? I'm thinking perhaps my husband has a second wife out there and it happens to be you. :)

Too funny!! My hubs the same, if it affects our 'botomline' in any way, he's on it!
I miss those couch days, sigh...

This post had me laughing. It's so true about men and their priorities. It sounds like you two have a pretty good relationship.
I tagged you on my blog. Maybe for tomorrow's post (only if you feel like it).

Awesome and so true. It is hard finding that couch time and staying awake. Are husbands try so hard, it's good we know how to get the results we need!

Cute story, at least you've got your time together down to a comfortable routine! Hope your chest pain stayed away, too and you're feeling okay.

We have a ritual that begins around 9 pm, when the youngest goes to bed. We sit on the couch and surf until we find something funny. I can totally see us falling asleep one day, lol.
Thanks for visiting!

Ha! I'm sure that wasn't funny at the time, but looking back you can laugh, right? :)
Glad to see his response time for the "important" things, like cable, is so fast. Haha..sounds like he really has his priorities in line!!! Guys... sometimes they're so (adorably) clueless. And sometimes not so adorably..

Ha!! Your husband is funny. I'm glad it wasn't anything serious. I think next time you want something, you should throw in that its about the cable or internet. : )

You are so funny!
I love the idea of him sleeping through your chest pain but raising to catch the cable guy.

typical male! we hardly watch tv together because we don't agree on the same shows. other than the news at 10, i just watch what he does unless it's one of my favorites. oh, i do have him wathcing 'dancing with the stars' the past couple of weeks. go figure!

It's funny... I was thinking that the other night. My husand has his big chair with the ottoman now where he grades papers, and I'm on the couch with my work spread around me. And we're rarely sitting together anymore.

Poor husband you've got there. He's never going to live that down!

Me and hubby are still in the tv-cuddling stage. I have noticed here lately though that he has been drifting off to sleep a lot earlier than normal. We haven't even made it to the second kid yet!

This was too funny! I can so relate ... to the rambling talking while hubby drifts off. And we are still TV buddies but that is because we only have 1 kid and most nights we can get him to sleep by 7:30. It is what keeps us sane. I don't know how you do it!
