Where music leads you

There are songs that reach deep within my heart, my soul. I wrote this poem as my attempt to capture that almost physical feeling of connection when the right song touches my spirit. A song can raise you out of your everyday for a few moments, and possibly unearth buried emotions or release trapped creativity. Music is becoming one of my favorite sources of inspiration for my writing. The more I immerse myself in the music; the more I discover about new avenues for my creativity.

Reception

Music can bring you to that place
where involuntary pangs push through.

An open soul waltzes with the physical

when music pulls you inside out.

An ordinary person shaken to the core
when song separates clouds.

"When song separates clouds..."

VERY nice imagery here my son is an orchestral composer and he draws inspiration from poetry –he would like this phrase very much!

I find music inspirational too, particularly live music. I use it often in my writing, there are so many parallels between the two. Beautiful poem here!

One of my favorite things in the whole wide world is music. It is so inspirational and alive. I have a song for every key moment of life. When I hear them I can tell you when, where and what was going on for me. Love your poem.

Great poetry. I know what you mean about music. I have my list of Go To songs when I need to be reminded that everything is okay.

Beautiful post and poem.
There is such a power in music! This power and influence can often be so miraculously positive and help lighten your day and free your spirit. But it can also drag a spirit down and beat you to the earth. The power in music can be abused just like any other power- and when it is, the loveliness can be turned into hatred with a downbeat. There is truly power in music - I wish everyone could use that power for beauty and happiness.

Music is so powerful. There are songs that take me back to a specific moment in time where I can see the place, remember the conversation and feel like I'm right there. It's so great for you that youo find inspiration in it. I love the poem!

Music can make when cry when I need to or make me feel uplifted when I'm down. :) Don't know that that makes sense but it's true.

"music can take you to that place..." that is such a true statement. I LOVE music and I have so many songs that will trigger a specific memory and I am instantly taken right back to those times, places and surroundings. Great job!!

Definitely agree about music making one's world go 'round.

I find that I come up with some very nifty flash fiction ideas whenever I listen to the radio.

I love this idea of music as your inspiration. I have sort of forgotten about the music I loved since Deaglan came along. Now it's mostly music for him I listen to. I think it's time that I rediscover what music used to do for me.

I think so too. I do some of my best brainstorming when I listen to music. It seems to take you to a better place to write free'er (is that a word. sorry no miusic on right now)
