My daughter's room is filled with princesses, baby dolls and all things pink. After having 3 boys, I probably went a little overboard with designing this super duper girl room. She does love being the queen of her little castle. When she receives guests into her room, she enjoys giving them the grand tour. I love how little girls talk about every little doll or toy in such cute detail. My boys would never sit still long enough to show off anything to family or friends. They were always in turbo mode.
My three year old princess is especially generous with compliments. She finds little ways to make someone feel a bit like a queen for a day. If her aunt is sitting on the floor admiring her Barbie collection, my daughter will usually compliment some part of an outfit or piece of jewelry. She may say, "Oh, what a beautiful necklace. I like how it sparkles." On those particularly unglamorous days, she can brighten up my mood quickly by saying something like, "Mom, your ponytail looks so pretty today." To me, it probably looked like a bird's nest, but she finds a way to make me feel special for a few minutes. Her compliments are not rehearsed or forced. She boosts your self-esteem when she admires even the smallest thing about you. To her, everyone is beautiful. And isn't she right?

This is so amazing and sweet.
What's amazing is how much we can learn from (a) our child. They don't know anything but how to be themselves, which is a natural blessing!
I don't have children of my own, but I am blessed with 3 grown stepkids, their spouses, and 5 beautiful "step" grandchildren.
One time one of our granddaughters said to me, "Meme, you have flowers just everywhere!" (I had a flowering basket in the back yard and 2 spots in the house that had plants, probably with violets, and maybe some cut flowers). I know it wasn't about my physical person, but I felt she was appreciating and noting something to mimic for her future house, a part of myself and my world, and it made me feel charmed and pretty. It stuck with me. It makes me breathe a little more softly when I look at blooms in my home and remember her loving & awed words.
Lovely, generous, warm-hearted children learn that from their parents. What a double gift for you!
Thanks for such positive, warm things to think about on a cold, rainy morning.
Hi Septembermom,
Your daughter sounds like a wonderful, little girl. She possesses a unique gift of optimism and sunshine. She sounds like a joy to have around and she will only develop more into the wonderful person she is.
Ah...the wisdom of a 3 year old. It's always honest and heart felt. Even better...you are a true princess in her eyes (birds nest ponytail and all!).
So sweet! People could learn a lot from your three year old...she has a wonderful way of viewing the world. :)
Oh yes she is. Some children have such a clear way of seeing the world ... We can learn much from her insightful attitude.
Oh how sweet! I love that. Ironically, my son is more like how you describe than my tornado of a daughter -- although she has her sweet moments, too :) You're raising her well!
Obviously she learned this from someone! She sounds delightful!
I love the sweet moments. I love being "best momma ever" and "bootiful"!!
she is so sweet in her own little ways. just wanna share with you, funny thing is, my son who is turning 6 in june, does those little things to me too. like u said about your 3 boys, even though hes in turbo mode most times, clowning around, he compliments me in simple, unimaginable ways like "Mommy, you are pretty today!!!", and then, swoosh, off he goes, my little Clown.
My daughter is the same way with her stuffed animals.
Last year when I was doing some pics of her stuffed animals, she graciously helped set them up so I could get some nice shots of them, and she made an appearance or two in them.
But those Build-a-bear bears....
What a lovely little girl. You know, I read a book "The Five Love Languages" and I would think this means her love language is "words of affirmation" because that's what she often does for others to express love. So throw on the compliments to her and other verbal expressions of love and gratitude and she'll always know she is loved. :)
That is adorable! What a sweet child. You have taught her well. :-)
Just think how much happiness she is destined to bring to the world (always). Job well done, as my son likes to say.
I have a 4 year old who is also able to dish out the compliments when you least expect them. I absolutely love that about her. Just this morning my son was asleep on me and she came over and said "mummy, you look so cute together lying like that" - it makes me all warm and fuzzy :)
