Mama Playing Scientist (sort of)

My 11 year old son and I have been discussing what it takes to be a scientist. I tell him to always keep his eyes open and ask questions. Maybe I'll put on the scientist cap right now at 9:59 PM. With that soothing dishwasher rumble in the background, I feel like sharing some observations/questions.

  • I think my husband's snoring could drown out the horn section of an orchestra.

  • Trying to be grammatical while texting annoys my teenage son.

  • Do you think sucking in my gut now for 5 minutes straight could cancel out that big dessert?

  • My daughter thinks that Santa's toy shop is dedicated only to making Barbies for her this year. She put 2 of her brothers on the naughty list.

  • It's probably not a good idea to visibly look aghast (fancy 19th century word, isn't it?) when your son's teacher tells you that he's 26. I have blazers that age.

  • Telling boys to watch out for huge puddles in order to preserve sneakers doesn't seem to register well in their brains during intense rainstorms.

  • What should I make for dinner tomorrow night? Just thought I would throw that one out to you. My dinner idea arsenal is empty.

  • Ouch! I'm feeling old when my teen son said to his friend in the car, "Sorry that you have to listen to my mom's music. It's from a long time ago." I know that cavemen chanting and beating drums music doesn't sit well with the young people. (It was a great song from Cheap Trick.)

  • Three year old boys (who I really don't know) like to hug my legs at bus stops. Little kids seem to think I'm a Disney character or Ronald McDonald, like one of those Pied Piper figures who become magnets for kids. I wonder if their mothers are starting to get annoyed with me. My kids don't make a fuss about me. But these other little ones want me to do a jig or juggle or something.

  • Do you think I should try to do a vlog? How can I sneak that one past hubby?

  • It's 10:11 PM and I need to sneak by snoring hubby and get all cozy with my book. I have also made the observation that ignored laundry can wait until tomorrow.

I'll drop by to say hello soon :) This is a nice ballad to soothe me to sleep.

I would love a vlog from you! I feel so bad for your kids having to listen to that old music!

I feel for you in all of these-LOL! As for the vlog, what's that saying, no guts no glory?

BTW: Missed you in the Micro fiction this week!

On the vlog - I'd love to see it because I hear you have an amazing accent!

Dinner - what you'd end up making?

I think you hubby has sleep apnea if he snores that bad. How good are your ear plugs?

Heehee I do try to keep up with the music....

Loved that one, Kelly, although they're all totally priceless. I love the way your mind works.

You could always make meatloaf or sloppy joes.

Simple, cheap and easy.

Funny thing about old music is that I often say the same thing that your son says about it, especially anything prior to 1986.

Yes! To the Vlog. Shaune and Grant must be brothers. His snoring is so bad that I've had to ask him to go to the basement to sleep. I can still hear it all the way upstairs!

I love that you are a magnet for all the kids in the neighbourhood. It doesn't surprise me!

I hope you are having a good morning. Love this song. It's a great one to sing along with - although not everyone might agree within earshot:)

I vote for a quick December bbq for dinner. Throw a few patties and dogs on the grill, grab some potato salad and you're good to go!

Oh how this made me smile. I can relate to so much of this although not in present time. I remember it well. I am though seeing so much of it the next generation round and nothing changes. Thank you for making me smile, you take normal everyday situations and make them such good reading. Carol and GJ x

My answer to the vlog question? Yes. Yes. Yes. I've tossed that idea around in my head a couple times, too. You aren't the only one whose boys' feet are like magnets to puddles. I do have to admit that I'm a loud snorer also. How do I know? I've startled myself a couple times from it. I know, terrible, huh? Hope you got in some good reading time! :)

This post is so much fun. Blazers older than the teacher, 'archaic' classic songs, thoughts of vlogging (Go for it!)...

I've never believed that calories ingested while standing up count (as in eating buffet style at a party).

I'd suggest a lasagna for dinner. We like to cheat and have the frozen one once in awhile.

My middle son (8) is drawn like a magnet to puddles. I warn him that it will be unpleasant to have wet socks (if we're walking to school) all day.

I know about the sleeping thing. Sometimes it seems I have to wait until everyone is asleep until I can get to what I want to work on/finish up working on....

all best,

MaryAnn

What'd you say? I had to take out my earplugs. The ones I HAVE to sleep with, because hubby thinks he's a lumberjack. :)

OH MAN! I love Cheap Trick. You RAWK! (Tell your son and friends I said that.)

Tell daughter that Ivy has all the boys on her naughty list FOR LIFE.! Ahh, revenge is sweet.

Thanks for your comments about Christopher. Kelly, he's my angel. NOTHING CAN HAPPEN TO HIM. I'd die. God takes care of him, but I still get scared. :) Now I'm breathing again. Feels good too.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I love that little stranger children want to hug you. That is because you are so sweet!

This cracked me up. I remember my son asking me if the world was in black and white when I was a kid. *sigh*

Fortunately, good music never dies. My 16-year-old loves Journey and Bryan Adams and surprises me by knowing the lyrics to songs on the oldies station. Maybe there is hope for our young after all...

What DID you have for dinner Kelly?
I like the music.

Oh I love that song! Your son is just wrong. I'm not looking forward to those days when that's the reaction I get to everything!

I cracked up on ALL of your random thoughts. I bet though that my husband's snoring can rival your husband's! It took awhile to get used to my son's teachers being younger than me, but when he had a principal that was a few years younger than me...I felt like I was going to hurl.

I try my best to maintain good grammar even in casual communication like texting, Facebook, and blogging. Sometimes I make mistakes, delete what I wrote, and then post them again.

This post had all kinds of awesomeness in it. Hope you snuck by undetected :-)

vlogs can be interesting. I find that it is rare that they keep my interest long term - I think primarily because I read faster than people speak. So give it a try and see.
