Uh Oh! What is Mom Doing?

"Mom, you're not going up, are you?" Picture my two oldest sons' faces when I went up to dance at a family party yesterday. They were mortified!

For the first time in 13 years, I was able to dance around at a party yesterday. My two younger children were not feeling great (just colds) so I left them home with my sister. Usually, I have a baby, toddler or preschooler hanging on to me at every party. Yesterday, I actually was free to socialize and dance.

When the first song came on, the DJ invited some adults to join the younger kids on the dance floor. No one was really jumping at the invitation. One boy was trying to coax his hesitant mother. I knew that she would go up if someone went with her. I decided to give it a shot. The two of us started dancing and had fun.

My boys were chuckling at all these 30 something and 40 something moms grooving to songs like "Hot, Hot, Hot" and other party dance songs. I didn't do the limbo because I know I'm not that limber. My boys were relieved that I didn't try it!

At the end of the party, the moms got to form a little Rockette line and kick up our legs. Gratefully, none of us fell over. The DJ said, "Prizes for all the kids and any of you under 40." Thanks DJ, of course now my kids are signaling for 41 year old me to get out of the prize line :) I told them that 25 year old Kelly came out to play for the party :) More mortified grimaces from my boys.

Anyway, it was nice to have a little fun since things are so crazy for me now. I'm still very busy with the publishing center at the school. It's truly a very time consuming volunteer job at this time of year, but it's fun.

Ready for the next thing added to my plate? My fourth grader will be in a Revolutionary War encampment at his school on Wednesday. Guess which mother is in charge of shopping for all the food? We are feeding 300 people. I have to get 35 pounds of chicken plus a ton of other things. At least, I'm not cooking it. I'll be getting my muscles exercised as I deliver the food on Tuesday. Gratefully, my husband will help me on that day.

We're still job hunting too. It's good to be busy and a little "crazy." I just hope I don't run out of steam before it all gets done.

Hope to visit everyone soon! I miss you all :)

P.S. So what do you think, wouldn't it be fun to have a big blogging party some day and have a few laughs and dancing? Don't worry we can be all kids on that day :)

Happy Sunday! Off to shop for 35 cans of soup, 20 boxes of corn bread mix, etc.

Doesn't hurt to let our kids know that we were teens once, too, and still enjoy a fun time.

I wish I could let myself go and dance like that. I'm too afraid of looking like spastic Elaine in that Seinfeld episode. Good for you!

How fun! I love to dance. And I think I should dance more (maybe that will help tighten things up on the backside...lol). Anyway, dancing is soooo good for the soul. I think it was just what you needed!

'Way to go Kelly!
Our kids are past being embarrassed at us taking the floor and just get up there with us. We do feel it the next day though.

Don't ever let 13 years go by before taking the floor again.

300 people?! Do you ever do things in a small way?

How mean of the DJ to give prizes to only those 40 and under! Age-ist! :D Sounds like you had fun, though. :)

And yikers on the food stuff ... that is a lot of people to feed. I think you're lucky you don't have to cook it!

What? No photos of you dancing? I am so bummed out! I am sure it was great fun and you looked great out there.

Yikes! Good luck with all that food preparations.

I once volunteered to help with a wedding. I meant to volunteer to make the brides dress but I ended up being the caterer and having to provide and make food for 500! Needless to say, I was asking myself repeatedly, "Why did I volunteer?" And I am NOT a professional or even amateur caterer. Good luck but it will come together.

"When you get the chance to 'sit it out' or Dance, I hope you dance!"

You're living the life. (And inspiring others to do the same.) I salute you!

Happy Monday!

That is so funny. I know the day is coming when I am able to embarrass my daughter with my less than appropriate behavior. you are my role-model kelly! JK

It sounds like you had an awesome time and THATS what matters. Don't allow anything in your life to make you forget that you are Kelly! Not just wife and mother, but woman and free-spirit!

Holy cow! How do you even figure out how much food for 300 people???
So glad you had such a good time. And although they act mortified, I'm sure your kids were enjoying watching you have fun!

Yay for you!! My kids get embarrassed at times when its just us inside our 4 walls :) I'll have to remind them I could always be in a much more public place! Good luck with the grocery buying and the encampment... sounds like a memory making event to be sure!

I'm so happy you got out there and danced! There is absolutely nothing better in life than knowing you have the power to embarrass your children. It keeps them in line, I swear it does. However, knowing how much dancing is in your soul, I doubt they were embarrassed for more than 30 seconds.

The only reason the DJ had to restrict the prize to "under 40" was because he knew the 40+ women would walk away with all the stash. Yeah.

Count me in on the blogging party!

Have a great day, and I wish you continued good luck on the job search. You know I'm praying for Utah, right? :)

It is good to let go and have fun once the kids are bigger. I think you should let loose more often. Sounds like you have your hands full with all the food shopping though. And yes, a blogging party sounds like a smashing idea! Have a beautiful week and thank you so much for stopping by.
