Poetry Quickfire

Do you know how the chefs have to do a quickfire challenge on Top Chef? They must put together some kind of dish in a short time. Well, I'm doing my own kind of poetry quickfire today for fun. Here is a poem that I wrote in about 5 minutes while watching Jillian play an online game. It's rough around the edges, but there may be something to work with here.

Fold it neatly
my soul's promise.

A love lyric to self
with care to watch.

Those fleeting moments
seeking a perch.

A word may present
to caress the unknown.

Note to waiting soul
unfolds eternity's window.

Pieces of a journey
lay before me a road.

I think this may be an interesting way for me to push myself into getting a poem out each day. Like those chefs during their quickfire challenge, I'll work with whatever is on hand and hope something worthwhile comes out on my "plate". Thanks for reading everyone!

Kelly, I love your poetry and think you are very talented! You definitely have a way with words. I don't think you give yourself enough credit.

I think doing this is an excellent idea - if our talents are not exercised they will not grow. Looking forward to more "quickfires"!

Wow. This is absolutely amazing--definitely something to work with and even beautiful already!

How marvelous it would be to force yourself to whip something out each day. I wish I could do that with blogging, but I'm so easily distracted by the 3 babies that I need quiet and calm (usually after bed time here). It seems that I can only post 2 or 3 times a week. But I love reading everyone else's daily thoughts in between my nursings and diaper changes and outside playtime and cooking and...

Hugs,

That's such a neat show, and I'm always amazed with what they come up with -- even if sometimes it isn't quite what they intended. It's a great metaphor for this. I like it, especially the last line!

Enjoyed the imagery, flow, and especially the closing line:

Pieces of a journey
lay before me a road.

Return Fire

Reading your thoughts poetic
Entice me to create my own.

An apt answer
To your beckoning volley?

I like the idea of coming up with one piece of poetry for every day of the year. At the end of your year, you have a publishable book! I say go for it.

Hey Septembermom,

What a fun game you've invented here. A poem in 5 minutes. Sounds like a fun challenge. I like your poem also...lovely freestyle.

You did that in 5 minutes???!!!! That was incredible! You should host something like that and encourage everyone to comment what they wrote, I'll participate!

Oh man, that would take me a year to write, for sure. I am impressed with your talent. Good stuff. :-)

Lovely! And what an awesome way of getting yourself to write everyday. Love the link between the show and creativity here. My mother wrote many poems and composed many songs in the wee hours of the morning. This was her best time for peace and reflection. But to write a poem in the midst of activity is also wonderful. Wishing you the very best, Kelly. I love this poem!

I thoroughly recommend you continuing along in this vein. It seems a method that keeps you light on your feet, and loving the work that is poetry.

I'm going to do a post soon about work which I got the inspiration from gene simmons of all people. Anyway he says that the true artist is like any other working person - they write/paint/play whether they are inspired or not. They push something out even on days they don't feel like it. I think this is the feeling I get from your thoughts today.
