Housework at night

I sit here at 9:45 p.m. and debate with myself: "Blog or dishes?" "Blog or laundry?" Blogging is becoming my favorite way to procrastinate :) Oh, how I wish I was Jeannie from "I Dream of Jeannie". Wouldn't it be great to blink those chores away? Here's a quick little poem sympathizing with all those evening mamas and papas who are finishing up their "busy work" before easing into hopefully a restful slumber.

Of course, until that cute, sleepy kid wakes you around 2 a.m. after a nightmare :)

Falling into Evening

Mama's losing count of dishes done,
Wrinkled shirts call for the iron,
Race cars trapped in seat cushions,
Storybooks need their shelves,
Unnoticed spills show up late,
Mama's hands run through her hair,
Quietly she arranges all again,
Arms full of the necessary,
Counting the minutes knowing,
Her ready book and comfy pillow awaits.

As I lift my head to peek in the kitchen, I secretly hope that those pots and pans cleaned themselves! Time to get on those flattering rubber gloves and tackle these dishes before I lose my chance to read my book. I hate falling asleep after only reading one page. Have a good night everyone!

Isn't that the truth. It seems like the evening is the only time to get real stuff done. And by the time I get all the kids down, I'm nearly too tired. I'm blessed that hubby enjoys the cooking and cleaning so much. I fear that if he didn't, we'd live in a pig pen!

Hugs,

Sounds like you've been peaking into my life again!

Our little one was up at 3:00 am this morning and finally went to bed at 9:00 only taking a 45 minute nap. Whew!

The dishes are going to wait until tomorrow and the toys can stay out - tomorrow is another day!

Thanks for the kind wishes...

Awww, Momma! Be sure to fill yourself as well. Truly, it will all get done.
Bur remember this awesome quote, If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. Or something like that.
Night, friend!

I say definitely blog before dishes or laundry or sweeping or scrubbing or ..... I am admittedly a professional procrastinator, but it absolutely essential for me to do the things that bring me joy first. Then the rest is not so hard to get to. Keep on procrastinating. It's all good.

That ready book and comfy pillow are great incentive to get the chores done, quickly! I try to delegate, too ... It helps, sometimes ;)

It is only out of sheer necessity that I choose to do any chores. My house falls into chaos every week.

I like blogging more than housework too. Sometimes I have to set a limit for me....If i wash the dishes then I can blog.....if I do some laundry then I can blog....and I am always breastfeeding while blogging...

My vote is to blog instead. Ha! No matter how much housework you do today there will always be more tomorrow!

Love the poem. I'm not a mama yet, but I do have my share of chores. Dishes are my least favorite, by far.

I sit here blogging...looking at a pile of dishes that need to be done (and a load of laundry that needs to be folded). LOL...it's so easy to procrastinate!!!

I like the poem you wrote. I think you owe it to yourself to do something you like to do at the end of the day, be it blogging or reading. The dishes can wait to the morning, as well as the pick me up stuff. You need to reenergize your mind and take yourself away from the busyness of the day. Everything will be just where you left it the next day.

I love this post. It is so true! I've been putting off so many things to blog. I'm starting to wonder if it's really right. I don't have a good scheduled way of doing it- so I often just find myself blogging on impulse and putting off things. Things I probably shouldn't. I have no self discipline! I think you're much better at it.

I think everyone can relate to this post! Since Aubrey has been born, I don't stress housework at all during the day and just wait until the hubs gets home to do it. Then again, I have to decide between housework or blogger. Blogger usually wins!

Congrats on the PP&P win, by the way! Beautiful poem!

blogging is surely my way of procrastinating!!!! you just reminded me to go do my dishes and empy the dryer...UGH!

That sounds awfully familiar! And I hate it when I'm too tired to read... or when I have a really good book and then read until 2 or 3 in the morning!

Tell me it was all clean, when you glanced the kitchen's way. So that you could dream and write again.

I really don't have much time to blog during the day so nighttime is "my time" and I don't do housework then. Whatever can get done during the day gets done... the rest just sits and waits for my attention at some later time. ALWAYS leave time for yourself!!!! It is critical.

I think so many of us can relate to this. I try to always at least tidy a bit before going to bed so that I don't wake up to a messy kitchen. It's such a drag to have to clean before giving Deaglan his breakfast. But you really captured that feeling of the reward at the end of the day...the book and and pillow.
