How about a museum trip? A poem too...

After looking through some of my painting books, I thought about how the landscape painter follows her muse to release such beauty onto the canvas. I could spend hours in the painting gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of New York. I can't believe that it has been about 10 years since I last visited the museum. I think it would be such a boost to my spirit to go back to this old haunt of mine from my college days. Bringing the kids and the hubby probably wouldn't be the "best" company for this visit. Time to call a girlfriend or two. The museum and lunch in NYC sounds nice. I wish I could call some of you to join me :) Don't tell Hubby about this little plan. He may run for the hills if he thinks I'm planning to put him on full time kid duty for a day!!

Moved to Paint

A windy day presents itself
to the receptive spirit.
Gusts of hues dance openly
before her unconscious palette.

Colors swirl through her mind
to dive into the waiting canvas.
Brushstrokes swim effortlessly
towards the soul of art.

Phrases of landscape whisper
to honor this natural dialect.
A silent framed voice
explodes into vivid translation.

Wow, you paint, too? I feel so insignificant :)

I think that little trip into the city sounds long overdue. Go go -- and have fun!

I love museums and art institutes. My Mom used to make fun of me because I would skip school (high school) just to go hang out in these places! LOL

I went to NYC when I was in university - didn't appreciate it as much as I would now. I think that sounds like a fun day out and you definitely shouldn't take the husband and kids! You are such a creative person Kelly! I always get such a sense of peace from you even though I know you must have so much going on. I think that this must come from your inherent creativity. I don't know many mothers of four under 12 who take time to write poetry everyday. That alone is so unique and special!

Oh how neat you have so many meaningful occupations... (that is what we occupational therapists call meaningful activities... how we occupy our time!)

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I just want to make one clarification. I'm not a painter. I was just looking through painting anthologies. Sorry if I mislead you guys. I wish I could paint :)

Kelly, You DID just go to the Met, virtually. The photo of the armored man and horse on my blog was taken there last month! I love nyc too, and totally get your desire to visit again.

Great poem, esp like the line about the artist's voice exploding in vivid translation. Gives a nice visual.

This makes me want to go to a museum, too... preferably the one with Ben Stiller and the talking exhibits. That one looks fun.

I'll be there with you - I've never been to the Met.

And great words to describe the painters of those landscapes.

Oh man. You do have the heart of an artist! I saw the painting in your poem!
I would so be there at the museum with you and your friends if I could!

I'd join you if I could. I used to love spending hours in art museums. But it's been a while for me too, mainly because there aren't many where I currently live. Good luck planning your getaway!

Very nice poem! I wish I could paint too and sing. LOL The trip to New York sounds wonderful-go for it! I was raised in New York City-Manhattan and have visited most of the museums there. I know I would appreciate them more now as I am more mature than I did when I was younger.

Ooo, this is lovely! I actually could see wet paint in my mind's eye being slid around and splattered. Beautiful poem! And good luck with that trip to the museum. How come we get to spend our everyday with the kids at all times but the men seem to cower at the idea of doing it once?

You could have fooled me! From reading your poetry it seemed like you are a painter, but it's obvious that you love paintings. You captured the passion of a painter thru words! I loved it!!!!!!!
