My living room, the zoo

Stuffed animals are everywhere I look today. My two young ones have decided to showcase all their furry friends on every available seat in my living room. While they were setting up this zoo, I was busy making the beds, unaware of what was keeping them giggling in the front of the house.

I can't believe that we have accumulated so many stuffed animals over the years. Considering that I have given bags of stuffed friends away, I'm amazed that we are still overrun with bedtime buddies. My kids don't even know about the two bags of animal friends in the attic. All kind of creatures are represented. Bears and dogs definitely monopolize the collection. My two young ones give extra special hugs and protection to those guys. When the two big kids get home, my two young ones go into security guard mode to make sure that no animal buddy is body slammed in a wrestling match.

Where did they all come from? I know that I haven't bought one in a while. Of course, grandma and the rest of the family love to see my kids' smile when a new special furry buddy arrives. At the last birthday for my youngest son, I remember saying when he opened a gift bag, "Oh, how nice. Another stuffed monkey." At least, he wasn't huge. We have some really big animals who hold up the rest of the smaller ones.

I think these animals must be multiplying in my sleep! It's always a challenge trying to organize them in my kid's rooms. Once I get them sort of neat, one of my kids will pull one out and the inevitable avalanche occurs. If I get anymore, they might as well have their own zip code. They are taking over!

For now, I'm going to try and enjoy my little kids' zoo at the house. Soon enough, I'll be wondering where did the days go when I caught my little one happily dancing around or hugging extra tight a bedtime buddy. Off to find a seat on my couch.

Maybe today I'll sit next to a tiger :)

You're right to just enjoy them. We used to have quite a zoo here too, but they do seem to slowly disappear as the kids get older.

Awww. Your post today made me mistily think of when my kids were little. Such sweet memories of unabashed love of stuffed animals. Them and me.
Thanks for the reminder.

I kept a bunch of my own stuffed animals from growing up and then we were given more for my little boys and I keep wondering what to do. My own are in a box safely in the closet for now- I was planning to give them as gifts to my children on holidays. Most of them are in really good shape- but then would they truly appreciate a used toy? Anyway- I've been changing my mind back and forth about them...they'll get plenty new ones- so what am I doing? Thanks for the post!

I love this posting - I don't think I've purchased a single stuffed animal for my son and now they just seem to be everywhere. Do they multiple? I love that your kids made a zoo in the living room - so charming. And you made me laugh when you said the animals needed their own zip code - I can certainly relate to that!

So cute... I loved stuffed animals (and real animals) when I was a kid and always had piles of them in my room and on my bed. I grew up in a house full of plants and many live animals/pets, so I liked to imagine and tell people I lived in a jungle.

Stuffed animals do seem to multiply. :) And they do take up a lot of room. :)

I already know what you mean and I only have one child so I can only imagine what you're surrounded by. Our living room is no longer the neat stylish place it used to be. Now it is a colourful mish-mash of toys.

Enjoy the animals on the floor. Take a picture to remember those days!!!
I would love to have my house like that again. Now I have a boyfriend taking my 20 yr old daughter away, all the time. I hardly see her.
I want my children little again!!!!

This is so cute. I remember those days. I actually had a beanie baby addiction lol. Those little guys were so cute. I even had a collector's book.
When they get older, I think you should pack their stuff animals to college!!!

Isn't it nuts? I swear these things are actually breeding and making more stuffed animals! My son just started dragging his out yesterday -- he goes through phases where they sit and sit and then he "discovers" again. Periodically, I sneak some out when he is in "dormant" mode. Glad I'm not the only one with a zoo.

That soundss familiar. Granted, I haven't been able to give away my favorite buddies from when I was younger, but ... thre is certainly a menagerie in our house. No one has played zoo yet though. I may have to make that suggestion!

We have about three huge bags of stuffed animals.

(pauses for a minute)

Most of them did not get bought for the children.

(pauses for another minute)

I have Roger Rabbit sitting in my cube.

It doesn't seem five mintutes since my children were making zoos, and indeed ten since I was making zoos myself. What a lovely post. :-)

How cute! My kids are over run with stuffies too! (That's what they call them here in Canada.) Grandma is the main culprit - she loves soft, cuddly things so much. My son sleeps with ALL of his - no less than 30 on his bed with him every night! My kids also drag all the animals to the family room and set up a "pet store." I'm also going to enjoy it while it lasts...

This made me smile the biggest smile. It's the same living room of my sister who has eight kids. She has a spotless house, though sometimes messy. But the end of every day sees everything in order again--until the next day, of course. Thank God she has help from a lovely nanny from abroad.
