John Lavery - "The Honeymoon"
"We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love. It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person."
"I'll give you my opinion of the human race in a nutshell... their heart's in the right place, but their head is a thoroughly inefficient organ."
"Beauty is an ecstasy; it is as simple as hunger. There is really nothing to be said about it. It is like the perfume of a rose: you can smell it and that is all."
W. Somerset Maugham

Simply beautiful...
Kelly, I really look forward to your Sunday quotes. I LOVE the first one about a changed couple and loving a changed person. Kirk and I just had a conversation about that recently -- how we're not really the same people we were eight years ago when we tied the knot. But how we have managed to grow and change together and that we love each other more now than on our wedding day. We're very lucky in that way. He even inspired me to write a short piece that I posted on my site yesterday.
I hope you're having a good weekend! Thanks for the uplifting thoughts!

Very good. I love it. So glad you put this quote in your post this morning. You made me think.
"We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love. It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person."
I'll take the role of a contrarian here. It is not by "happy chance" we continue to love a changed person. It is by commitment.
When I was younger, hearing heard such a quote, I was reluctant to love. But I've found that on-going love is a choice, a determination, and a commitment. It is not merely "a chance."
I loved a woman who changed... decayed... and died. Love is... "for better or worse, sickness and in health..." not "if by chance..."
The quote is lovely and even is, perhaps, the majority view. But methinks... it gives too much room for giving up, getting out, and excusing a lack of commitment.
(All this from a guy!)

Maugham wrote one of my favorite books, Of Human Bondage. Beautiful quotes today.

I so envy that picture. Ahhh....... :O)
Fabulous painting this Sunday. Thank you for sharing.
Was your honeymoon so lovely?
That picture is intriguing. It's beautiful and I want to be there. But it says a lot too. The man looks totally engrossed in what he is doing, while the woman appears bored out of her skull. She's not even looking at the gorgeous scenery before her. It's almost as if she's waiting for the romance to happen, while he is otherwise occupied.
Oh that first quote totally speaks to me... and I love it paired with the painting. The name is ironic as she looks disinterested and he is unaware! And it that is their Honeymoon? Then... ouch... they may be in trouble already :)
I love that first quote. Too true ... when you think about it, it is miracle than any marriage or long-term relationship can last.
I can't get past that painting. The husband seems perfectly content, but the wife looks somewhat regretful. Hmm...
Interesting... those are three very different quotes. And the first one really speaks to me. I hope it's true of all those I care about - both for me and of me!
I love the painting! Beautiful colors and scenery. She looks a tad bored though :) Perhaps she's relaxing. I like all of the quotes but the first one catches my thoughts.
Music Plan B wass crazy response too I
But early on before true mum's word
But coming around is going sky high

Creative writing will come soon on my post about Natural History truth! Enlightening! Love Andrew.
Love it all. What a peaceful picture.
i love the first quote. Beautiful.
I love your quotes here Septembermom. One can certainly reflect on them. I'm also intrigued by the painting "The Honeymoon." I think the first quote speaks to the painting. Perhaps they are not as happy as they should be? Just a thought. Take care :)
You always pick the perfect picture to match the most perfect quotes. I especially love the first one!
Another amazing Sunday Citar!
