Trying to keep up with the sprinting gal next to me

Can you hear me panting?  I just finished a power walk with a robot of a walking woman. Whatever calories that I just burned are lost as I look for a chocolate bar right now.

Every once in a while, I will go walk the track with a friend.  Since I have three hours free in the morning before Jillian gets off the bus, I have been scheduling these friendly walks with various buddies around town.  It is interesting to think about how varied these walks can be.  Here are my three type of walking buddies:

The LOUD talker - bad thing when she gossips about PTA moms on a busy track

Speedy Gonzalez - woman goes right to 60 mph and doesn't slow down

The bench hunter - we might as well go to Dunkin Donuts (always an option with me) considering how many times we stop our walk.

Boy, are my feet sore.  I bet she is going to bike cross county now.  Her stamina is admirable.  I try to look like I'm handling her pace with a smile as we walk lap gazillion.  Apparently, I have a competitive side when it comes to walking.  I want to match her lap by lap.  My hamstrings are begging for 5 laps.  I wish this kind friend of mine would not be so fond of 20 laps.

You are too funny! My best friend is a speedy, I gave up walking with her. It was too stressful to keep up with her and talk at the same time : )

Cute post! I just started the Couch to 5k program and I'm loving it. Got the iphone app and my trainer keeps me on track, doesn't rush me, discourages finding a bench, and doesn't gossip. lol

Have a good weekend, Kelly! Hope you find the perfect walking mate one day. :)

HELLO THERE.. I always searched for a fellow walker but.. everone turned out to be either irregular/slow like turtle/fast like a rabbit/too talkative or too irritating.. so the best friend to walk aroun'd is me myself.

nice post..
very funny indeed.

How it is something so simple as you walking the track is so entertaining to me? I think it's your writing. I've always enjoyed it. Thank you for your description. It is inspiring me to want to work out but after yesterday's session, I'm just too sore. It's times like this that I'm happy I have no work out partner. I think I am too competitive.

I loved your view! I miss walking with my friend. We are out of sync between the weather and sinus infections. The walker that drives me most nuts, is the Raver-she just wants to rant and rave. Nothing good comes out of her mouth. Walking is me time, I don't want to hear it~
I love that you are competitive!
I will think of you, when I walk :D

I admire your stamina, Kelly. I'm well past walking for fitness but when I was able I paced myself to keep up with my dawdling dog. Happy days.

How awesome that you are focusing on yourself for a change my friend!! And it doesn't surprise me that you have so many partners to walk with - I'd be right there if we lived close.

Oh this is funny. I had a walking buddy myself for awhile but she sounds like your super speed walkin' friend and I found it myself not only struggling to keep up but struggling to have a conversation..ha!

I guess of all of them, Robot Walker Lady is probaby the best for burning calories.

You're funny. You would totally fit in with our walking group. We're a motley crew, all with different fitness levels and interests and challenges. But hey - go with that competitive nature, and soon you'll be that woman running ahead of everyone else! :)

I'm a Speedy Gonzalez. I think it comes from being a former runner and missing that so I burn up the pavement when I power walk!

I swear I have been on walks with all three types of women! You have them categorized so well! Too funny. Don't tell anyone, but I will admit to being the bench hunter. :)
