It's Microfiction Monday over at stony river. We are invited to write a short, short story in 140 characters (including punctuation and spacing).
It was like High Noon at the picnic. Joe saw his rival for Lily’s affections. Standing tall, he used his best Gary Cooper intimidating look.
Happy Monday!

Nice! I looked at the picture, read your story, looked at the picture again, and then smiled. Your story is perfect!
2 thumbs up :)
I also took a double take on the picture after reading your post.
Spot On, Mom!
Have a great week and see you next time.
Excellent, I can remember High Noon and that look.
Yvonne.
Great.
It just seems like a simpler time, doesn't it?
Yes, I was thinking about that look - not to mention those ears :) - Nice MM!
A lovely piece, concisely written.
Thank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
Love the western throwback! Cute one :O)
Very fitting. Cute.
I think Joe's fine physique will capture Lily's attention, too. Very creative MM! I like it.
How fun!I hope you're having a good day Kelly!
hee hee I see it!
you rascal...what a funny one
I dunno. Doesn't look like Gary Cooper to me, or intimidating, either. LOL

Very good. I love reading these to see what you'll come up with next. :)
Perfect.. Well done.. Carol and GJ x
Hahaha, indeed!
I don't know how Joe could have any competition with that brooding stare and the high-waisted shorts...
I think they all look pretty intimidating - certainly not pretty! :)
LOL! Great take on the pic.:O)
Back from the bush and catching up on blogs!
Like @bel, reading your story added a different perspective to the photo. It become so much more than a family picnic!
Judy
Gary Cooper? Not sure about that, but I do like your take on the picture this week! Made me chuckle. Cheers!
I love these. You do a great job of telling a whole story in those few words!
Hi,
After reading your Western High Noon take on this picture I saw it in an entirely different light...nice work - good MM!

The pic is absolutely a GEM! :) And your words? Made me giggle. Love the intimidating look. Might I say, dang you're SO good. :) Hugs Kelly. From me and Christopher. :)
Makes me kinda miss picnics...nice one!
Nice picture and I love the words!
He does have a Gary Cooper look. I wonder if lunch was at High Noon.
Well, we have to give him credit for trying, don't we? I'm not sure he's pulling off Gary Cooper, but he's sure pulling something. LOL Nice take on the picture!
I did the double take too to check out the pic again. :-) Very nice.
Well done. OF course, it would help if I saw High Noon or knew what Gary Cooper looked like!
A western theme-ooh! But those swim trunks are just too much...
Love the short story...I've seen High Noon so I enjoyed this throw back. Nicely written.
You're so talented, Kelly.
Loved both of them. Your story and that picture!
B xx
you are so good at these, bravo.
Beautiful Fiction Dear :) :) Missing Your Poetry :( Why dont u share ur poems alternatively ??
It was really hot and miserable, but thankfully someone remembered the beer.
I had to look up Gary Cooper and the movie before commenting. I see now that the references fit.
Oh, the drama in a family picnic! LOL This one gave me a laugh, because long ago our school choir had to sing Putting on the Ritz, and as a joke on the teacher we all replaced "Gary Cooper" with "Alice Cooper" and thought we were hilarious.
'Bout as long ago as that photo.... *sigh*
Good one! I love the way your mind works. ;)
