It's hard to pass up a bargain. Last summer, I found this one piece bathing suit that was marked down 75%. I took a chance and bought it online. Gratefully, it fit okay. After checking myself in the mirror a 100 times or so, I decided to actually wear it to the town pool.
I'm not a fan of all eyes on me at the pool. Thanks to my husband for making me feel like I was on center stage at the pool. He yells out, "Hey lifeguard, can you save me?"
Remember not to buy a one piece red bathing suit unless you're on a Baywatch reunion show. I can assure you that I am no Pamela Anderson :)
Of course, I usually have to painfully pull a compliment out of my husband. That day, he decided to let the whole pool world know that I was heading towards the pool. Wish I could pull off a "sexy pool walk." At that time, Jillian was grabbing onto my leg saying, "Nooooo! I don't want to go to the big pool!!" Just imagine the contorted position I was in trying to negotiate with her. Not all that attractive :) LOL.

I'm not a fan of attention when I'm in a bathing suit either. I bet you looked good though - your hubby liked it!
I'm sure you were adorable in it- and the other mommies in the pool envied you even with the little girl tugging on your leg. :D
Isn't it funny you can spend "hours" of talking yourself into being "okay" with something only to have one comment derail the whole thing... if hubbies could just learn that :) i think that is why my skin is so thick these days.
Okay, look at it this way-hubby paid you a compliment so you must look good in your suit, and you probably don't even know half those people so don't worry about the center stage thing. I hope you held your head up high while you dragged your daughter along. LOL!
Dang smart phone-first it doesn't take my comment, then I have two the same...sorry.
Here's my observation---when we look good, our husbands want everyone to know that we "belong" to them. It's kind of a way to say, "Look at me---I scored the hot chick!" It's a man thing. I think when he yelled that, it was his way of saying to all men at the pool "The hot chick in the red swimming suit is MINE. So back off."
I love this!!!!!! Way to go HOT STUFF :-)
The more I think back (and even now from time to time) I think Randi is right.
to piggyback on previous comments... when we think we just look "okay" our husbands think we look H-O-T. I know you were killing it in you red suit
Okay, I'm sorry, but I'm chuckling at your husband a little bit. But, I'm SURE you must have looked awesome if you even considered going out in public in a red swimsuit. I will only publicly don a bathing suit when I absolutely have no other choice, and then it's a black one and I spend the whole time at the pool trying to blend in with the scenery.
I haven't owned a bathing suit in 29 years, but if I can find one on a really good sale, I might this year. They are just scary!
LOL! I know it's not a funny situation at the time but reading about it did make me chuckle....
Ahhh, the dreaded bathing suit outing. I think all of us, no matter what size or shape we are just HATES being in a swim suit. I know I do, even with the weight loss I've had recently. I just hate feeling so close to naked in front of a crowd. You'll never see me in a nudist colony, that's for sure!! I hope you're able to pay back a compliment to your husband in public someday soon! :)
It was an attempt at a really great compliment..... oh well. :O)
I am sure you look lovely in the suit. Made me smile how you described everything.. Carol x
OMgosh that is the funniest thing I have read all day. YOur hubs is a hoot. LOL
I need a new swimsuit...I hate looking though
I love the pool walk. I had to buy a special swim suit that fit snugly so that when T Rex grabs at me I don't flash everyone!
A compliment from the better half, which is something to be very proud of, probably made your day.....and then some...:D
The last thing I need is people looking at me in a bathing suit. That said, I'm sure you looked great! Good for you. I usually have a beach cover up when I go anywhere there is a large body of water. Aren't husbands grand???
Oh la la! Now stuff some socks in the boob area and get a blonde wig and make his Pamela Anderson on Baywatch fantasies come true!
That's a cute story Septembermom...I'm sure you looked lovelier than you give yourself credit. Most of it is just confidence but I'm a shy girl myself so I understand.
I enjoyed the read, I bet you looked very good , I only wear a swimsuit should I go to the baths, Wouldn't dare show myself on the beach,
Yvonne.
lol, oh dear.
Still laughing!!!!
Septembermom...the most important compliment is the one from Hubby! Your story reminds me of the commercial where a lady is trying to impress some policemen that she is passing by in her mini van...she still has the diaper bag on top of the roof! Have a great weekend.
Dan
haha! What a stinker your husband is! I would have been totally embarrassed! Now you will have to get him back somehow...
PS I have some questions I would like to ask you about NY (you live there- right?) if you have a minute in your crazy day. would you mind emailing me so I can email back? brianandcaitlin(at)gmail(dot)com Thanks!
I agree with Randi. If you hadn't looked so good, your husband wouldn't have wanted anyone to look at you. But... I can imagine how you felt.
Oh, no, lol!!! I hate swimsuits. I'm probably overly modest, and while I do grab the tankini, I usually also pull on some shorts, too. Sigh...
My 19 year old son is a lifeguard at his university. Once I went to see him and swim and was obviously embarrassed about how I looked in a swimsuit. Bless his heart he said "You look great mom and way better than you think in your own head"
Plan B
Kelly, the contorted position you were in and your hubby hollering those words--made me proud to know your hubby through you. He's a great guy! Mine too. If I gain weight he says, "I like you better this way," If I lose weight he says, "I like you better this way." So it's a win-win for me, yanno?
I hate me in a bathing suit. And we have a pool, but I usually swim by myself or get in before everyone else. UGH
Thanks for cheering me up today. It's great to know I'm not the only one. :)
Good for you heading to the pool.
Good for hubby acknowledging his drool...
for you!
lol
Good husbands do their best to say, "I love you" in ways their wives need to hear it. Sometimes, the attempt is all that matters.
(I just read a poem by Scriptor... and couldn't resist a rhyme with pool... my apologies to hubby.)
I agree with Randi. And all the women who heard were secretly wishing their husbands were more like yours. Thumbs up to you husband :)
I don't like public displays of bathing suit either.
And my hubby has no problem of drawing attention to me either in an attempt to voice his like of me in little clothing.
Ahhhh men. *giggle giggle snort* But hey, it's not like you'll be seeing any of those people anymore, right? ;)
Men, husbands....:Z
Keep your head up. :)
BAHAHA! That is hilarious! Got to love those men in our lives!
