Poetry Quickfire

Queen of the Big Top

Quick change of focus as tasks line up.
Zip through the canned responses.
Stepping with care on the line.
Eyes fixed away from the drop.

Touch of sequins may jazz the day.
Mama jumbles through rehearsed act.
One woman show can avalanche.
Family troupe aches to applaud.

Some days I feel like a high wire performer trying to balance the family load on my shoulders as I step gingerly through the day. As many of us know, it's tough to keep that smile all the time when you feel overwhelmed. However, families need the show to go on. I want to keep our happy little circus running. My kids know how to keep me on my toes with new demands on my balance, patience, creativity, and stamina. Good thing I have my chocolate power boost moments.

Wonder if I should make my own sequined mama circus outfit? Now that's something I could make with that bedazzler machine :)

I know the feeling, I have 3 children one in Spain the other2 here in the UK, The one in spain for some reason don't speak to the other 2. I have got to the stage when I say "sort it out your selves" It's like balnacing on a tight rope.
Loved your post.
Takecare.

Kelly, you do an amazing job. I am in awe at how dedicated you are to being such a fantabulous (yeah I made that up) Mother. Your poem described so well the work we do as dedicated Moms. Keep up the good work and I would love to see that outfit or maybe even just a hat! :)

Oh you have me grinning from ear to ear! I so get every word of what you just wrote!! I think your sequined mama circus outfit is a brilliant idea... I'll be first in line to purchase one from you :)

Awesome poem!

Oh isn't that the truth! It's definitely a high-wire act sometimes, but I suspect your family also makes a wonderful net of support :)

Love the poem! It's starting to feel a bit like a high wire act over here too lately.

Have a blessed day Kelly!

I can really see the circus outfit working. ;)
The high wire act feeling can certainly set in easy. I try to think of "thriving" instead of just "surviving." Not always easy, but worth it. :)
Lovely poem!

I absolutely can relate to this. Your poem is so well written, and touches home to our roles as mothers. It is hard to keep that smile on our faces, especially when this is often times a thankless job. However, I just try to rest in the fact that this is a calling that God has placed on my heart, and I just do the best I can. On those frequent overwhelming days, I tell myself that tomorrow is another day to start new. Let me know when you get that sequined outfit-I have a feeling that will be one hot commodity! :)

What a very real glimpse into your life from that poem.

My husband often hums a circus theme and says he feels like a juggler in the circus when he's managing both kids and we only have two! I don't know how you do it and keep a smile on your face. Wow!

Oh you SO need to make that costume, if only to put it on when you're overwhelmed so everyone can have a good laugh :)

I'm with ya on the rest!

I really enjoy the circus imagery which you weave through your post. The show must go on...where would our children learn if not from their parents first.

Yes, it's always a circus... I just need a nap!

Girl I always tell people that I have a traveling three ring circus with my kids in tow. LOL They do keep us busy and on our toes. But in a good way.
Have an awesome week.

Thanks for sharing, as always, your wonderful insightful words into the world.

And, definitely, everyone is in need of something that has been bedazzled, because bedazzling just sounds cool!

Never discount any idea that results in a good use for a bedazzler. The bead you save may be your own.

You own a bedazzler...lol.

All kidding aside, this is a wonderful poem...love your quick fires!

lol, poignant but funny.

"One woman show can avalanche" - oh YES!

Making a sequined outfit can only improve things. :)
You're a great mama.

I know the feeling! A sparkly outfit for me might help around here. At least it would lighten the mood...

Thank you for your comments on my NPM challenge so far!

I agree with many here, I don't know how you do it with four kids!!! You amaze me that you even have time to write. I'm glad you do though! Hope you are doing well and I feel like we need to catch up.
