Sunday Citar

Christine Herter - "Light and Shadow"

“Whatever you are doing, love yourself for doing it. Whatever you are feeling, love yourself for feeling it.”
Thaddeus Golas

"I don't know if I continue, even today, always liking myself. But what I learned to do many years ago was to forgive myself. It is very important for every human being to forgive herself or himself because if you live, you will make mistakes- it is inevitable. But once you do and you see the mistake, then you forgive yourself and say, 'well, if I'd known better I'd have done better,' that's all. So you say to people who you think you may have injured, 'I'm sorry,' and then you say to yourself, 'I'm sorry.' If we all hold on to the mistake, we can't see our own glory in the mirror because we have the mistake between our faces and the mirror; we can't see what we're capable of being. You can ask forgiveness of others, but in the end the real forgiveness is in one's own self."
Maya Angelou

Oprah always repeats that quote from Maya and it has stayed with me for years. There is so much peace that comes with forgiveness and once you realize how much easier it is to "let go" instead of "hang on" life just flows so much better. Thanks for the reminder!

I love both your quotes. How true they both are. Maya Angelou is a wonder!
The painting is lovely as well.
Take care. Have a great week.

I had to re-read Maya Angelou's quote just to absorb it. Beautiful thoughts to remember this winter Sunday.

Yeah, wonderful is the word that immediately came to my mind too. I'm not too sure if the woman in the painting has come to the understanding of herself yet. The beautiful thing is wherever there is a shadow there is also light. We all have to remember this, especially during difficult seasons of self-doubt. Thanks, Kelly.

These are both beautiful quotes. Yes, it is so important to forgive yourself and to embrace self love. I really love what you've captured here in these posts.

WOW - Maya Angelou. For many years I had a difficult time forgiving myself. I wouldn't even ask God for forgiveness, because I did not believe I was worthy. I spent too many years judging myself...

Oooo I'm loving those quotes today. Did you pick up the Dr. Ginsburg book btw? The resilience is so aimed at exactly this!

I needed to read that quote today from Maya. I am always so tough on myself...

Oh so very true and something I need to continually be reminded of. It is easier for me to forgive another than to forgive myself. Being gentle with myself is a way of forgiving and in doing so, growing. Thank you for sharing and reminding us all to be good to ourselves, and love ourselves. We are worthy. Blessings to you and yours. Love and Light, Nina P

I really like Golas' quote - I need to learn to love myself more and be a little less critical.
