Sunday Citar - The Need to Be Alone

Franz Xaver Winterhalter - "Empress Eugenie"

We are rarely proud when we are alone. - Voltaire

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be. - Anne Frank

Inside myself is a place where I live all alone and that is where I renew my springs that never dry up. - Pearl S. Buck

When they are alone they want to be with others, and when they are with others they want to be alone. After all, human beings are like that. - Gertrude Stein

When I discovered this painting, the first thought that came to me was that the princess longed to be alone. There is comfort in finding time to be alone. Living as royalty must have been such a stifling life. I imagine that those precious moments alone would be treasured by someone so under the microscope of all around her.

Yes, Anne Frank's quote is so bittersweet, when we consider the circumstances under which she lived so many of her days. Beautiful thoughts here.

I am certain that I could not have lived the life of a queen hundreds of years ago - they could not even nurse their babies. Once I heard that, I knew I was born at the right time in the right place - they can have their royalty

beautiful painting! she has that same look Princess Diana had in many of her pictures. I don't know why we continue to push the fairy tale princess myth on our girls. clearly they have very sheltered lives. talk about gilded cages!

Wonderful quotes Kelly! I especially like the one by Pearl S. Buck.

I've been trying to have some along time recently - looking for time to meditate. My son found me in a dark corner a couple of days ago, and gave me a look of concern. :)

I love your concept of being alone. I think these tributes are very fitting. Whenever I read a quote by Anne Frank, it touches me so much. So young and so wise. Thanks for sharing with us : )

Its very interesting to me that you would look at her and see loneliness when so many of us would perhaps be envious of the life we feel fitting of royalty :) You've caused me to pause and reflect a bit more and search below what my superficial first thoughts suggest. Great quotes!

That's one of the reasons I'd never want to be royalty - or otherwise overly famous - even in crowds, you're always lonely. I do require alone time (and yes, I can be proud and alone somehow), but thank God for people who can keep me sane, too!

Being alone often refreshes me so that I can face the daily challenges again.

Elegant picture and perfectly fitting emotions. I'm an Anne Frank fan, so that's my favorite... and I like being alone. We need time to find quiet :)

I love my alone time too! But I am glad that I have so much going on in my life that it makes me want the alone time. Otherwise it would just be lonely time. :)

Motherly nature is so great
And sum men just can't relate
To this wonderful sumtigns inate
Quality causing them to relent frustrate.

When stripped of garments and materialstic form
Are we not all equal in every way but scorn
And if you sympathise with this given role
Then you should be free of all cummupence scole!

You know I have known sum men to dupe their partners, as in leaving the childrens soiled nappies until their return, and not only that, but to know of their imminent arrival and sit and play with the child or children upon their happy entrance! Very sad indeed, and they bragged to their friends as such! They should be taught such lessons in motherly natrue. Prisons that hold such imates should have baby days where they learn what it must be like for a baby to stay in soiled nappy conditions for a considerable time and to become aware of the consequences of such actions, as in rashes etc. Sorry to bee an realistic but negative quote! Most men are great fathers and are equal with women for the care of the children. Love and best wishes Andrew. Thank you. Take wonderfula and gentle care. Bye.

Ps your followers seem such nice people, it is a joy to see humanity in motion!

Beautiful portrait. Reminds me of the faces of celebrities that I sometimes see. I don't know WHAT I would do without my alone time! It is refreshing and rejuvenating to the spirit!
