Poetry Quickfire

Expedition

Blow the dust off my jar
pushed way back in my cave
where a small flame
may light a twisted path
scraped into real
with teaspoons of years.

Squint back to day
waiting to gently touch earth
when a ray of hope
may center a divided focus
opened into now
with whispers of steps.

Instead of making dinner right now, I had to write this poem. My poems often just hit me unexpectedly. I like having my poetry quickfires as a place to put them down. Later, I'll sit back and try to absorb what I needed to say here. No editing, just "feeling" it to see if the words sit right. Thanks for going along for the ride with me :)

Hubby should be arriving within 10 minutes. Off to the stove I go!!

Kelly, lovely as always. Every line is powerful, and full of meaning right from the beginning. Awesome!

Good thing that you had pen and paper handy for just such an emergency! :O)

Don't you love it when the muse just takes over like that and you can just go with it? It's a great feeling to create like that.

I know that small flame. It does still light the way, after all this time.

"Blow the dust off my jar..." I like this line. Always go with your "inner" voice-it always leads the way!

A great "quickfire" - I think these are often your best works! I hope the rest of the evening went smoothly. And thanks for you kind words about our new little one!

Lacking inspiration, maybe I can parody... using your quick-fire as a template:

CR-V

Blow out the carburator
pushed the back seats down
where a dog could ride along
may the mud
scraped into the carpet
with dog claws, not

Squint back at me
waiting to mock
when I carry groceries.
may a dog's heart be
opened with glee and
with ready companionship.

(Don's poetry knock-off. Discounted.) ;-)

A poetry quick-fire
Is sure to inspire
Others alike 'Mom'
To metaphore life
With words so rife
In a worked out sum
Before chores are done.

A good poem that draws the reader into its depths of cryptic metaphore and analogy. Thank you. Take care. Bye.

"I had to write this poem." I so get that. It's like an uncomfortable pressure until you do it, isn't it?

good poetry pings in your brain long after you've read it :-D

I'd happily avoid fixing dinner if I came up with a poetic inspiration. Alas, I didn't and so I must.

I love the things you think of while cooking dinner!! If I thought of this while cooking, everything would burn! Well done!

Lovely, especially enjoyed,
"when a ray of hope
may center a divided focus"

And,
"Instead of making dinner right now, I had to write this poem."
LOL YES!
