A Christmas Meme

My pal, Susan over at Susan Fobes' Family Formula, tagged me to play this fun Christmas meme. I have my Jingle Bell hat on, and I'm ready to play :)

Have you started your Christmas shopping? I'm 50% done which means that I'm 50% freaked out.

Tell me about one of your special traditions. There are certain ornaments that were special to my Dad. I will always find a special place for them on my tree. It's a moment to connect with Dad again.

Are you a Black Friday shopper? I'm tempted to brave the crowds, but my husband would probably padlock our front door if I dared to venture out on Black Friday. When the kids are older, I can sneak out when he's sleeping. Now I need him to be an awake and willing babysitter if I go out shopping. I need a Happy Daddy so that I can shop without thinking that the kids are grounded within the first five minutes of my departure.

When do you put up your tree? Once I hear the following statement over and over again: "Mommy, everyone put up their tree already. Please ask Daddy to get the tree out of the attic." Asking Daddy to get the tree down can be a tricky negotiation for Mommy on some weekends. He's not a big decorating the tree kind of guy :) The kids are glad that I'm a HUGE tree fan!

Do you travel at Christmas or stay home? Think of bright eyed kids looking at you at 5 a.m. on Christmas morning. Gratefully, we stay home since we're zombies anyway. I like the kids to be able to stay at home and play with their presents. My mom and sister come to my house for a low key Kelly kind of dinner. Even though I think it's not a big feast, I still wind up with piles of dishes.

What is your funniest Christmas memory? You should have seen the look on my father-in-law's face when we gave him a back massager one year. I really didn't think of the gift in THAT way :)

What is your favorite Christmas movie of all time? "The Year Without A Santa Claus" Do you remember Mr. Heat Mizer and Mr. Snow? Love those guys.

Do you do your own Christmas baking? What is your favorite Christmas treat? This will be my second year attempting to bake for Christmas. No one lost a tooth last year, so I think I'll add some more cookies to my dessert menu. You can bet that chocolate will be prominent.

Fake or real tree? We've had a fake one for years. I want a real one again, but hubby doesn't want to deal with me picking out the biggest tree in the lot. He seems to think that I will go tree crazy in the lot. Maybe he's right :)

What day (as a mom) does the actual panic set in to get it all done? My mind is racing right now. I'm in panic mode from about now until Christmas Eve. Where does all the time go and where's that extra money?

Are you still wrapping presents on Christmas Eve? Lots of scotch tape everywhere.

What is your favorite family fun time at Christmas? I'm so exhausted that I think I'll vote for a lovely Christmas night sleep.

What Christmas craft do you like the best? I wish I could craft something wonderful. I guess I'll go with those window stickers of Santa. Does that count?

Christmas music. Yes or no, and if yes, what is your favorite song? "What Child is This" is one of my favorites. I really love so many of them. "Do You Hear What I Hear" is wonderful too.

When do you plan to finish shopping? Let's hope that I finish by this Saturday. Fingers crossed. Hope the weather cooperates. We had icy roads yesterday and today.

Now it's time to tag these fun bloggers:

This was fun! I love the story about the back massager! My daughter was just talking about Mr Heat Mizar yesterday. I had forgotten about that movie.

What a busy time of year, but in a joyous way, really! We had that rainy/icy weather here too this weekend, I don't think the retailers liked it too much :( Hoping the sun shines on the rest of your preparations!

I love reading memes:) Sounds like a relaxing Christmas day. We go over to his parents and the way they do presents takes a l l D a y. Not kidding. We are there from 1ish to 9ish. We take a break or two. It is so exhausting.

Silent Night and Carol Of the Bells is my favorite.

Thanks for sharing a little more of your sweet self with us. Take care on the roads when you are out. At the moment we have to brave the sun and extreme heat of the day.

Ahhh, thank you! Mister Man has been talking about the Heat Mizer (from the second Rudolph movie, Mommy!), and I could not for the life of me remember the movie. Phew! :)

I probably would pick out the biggest tree on the lot too. We do artificial every year. I guess it saves money too. :)

How fun! That back massager story is too funny! We just recorded The Year Without A Santa Claus the other night. Autumn got bored about 10 minutes in but I kept my lazy tail on the couch and watched it all while hubs dealt with the girls ;)

My shopping is 100% done as is T Rex Dad's! This is a first for us. Maybe nesting instinct?!?

I'm totally in panic mode too since I've been sick for 3 weeks and haven't done anything. It's a fun time though - good luck with your baking...I have to bake 6 dozen cookies tomorrow for a cookie exchange. Yikes!

I'm not even half-way done with my Christmas shopping either and equally freaked out like you. I hope you get yours done this weekend. Enjoyed reading your responses to the questions.

What a very fun meme! Don't feel bad, I don't think we'll be able to START our Christmas shopping until the weekend. That's pretty typical for me though.

Enjoy the baking!

Oh, thanks for tagging me! I'm heading to bed tonight after a really, really long day, but I'll be sure to post tomorrow with my answers. Or at least a few. :)
Hope you get some much-needed Christmas sleep. ;)

I loved reading this especially the ornaments that were special to your dad. This year we'll be having a low key Christmas gathering too and I'm with you, when you think a meal is small there's always still a lot of dishes!

I loved your responses and can feel the "freaked out" feeling with your words. I know what you mean! Usually by this time of the year, I have everything bought and wrapped... not this time. Arggghhh!

Oh and "What Child is This" is my favorite song too. I love to play it on the piano!
