Where to Find "Me"

To think that so many of you know the "real" Kelly better than those who have known me for years. Here is a poem exploring that notion.

The Waiting Me

You may stand next to me
for countless years
assuming that you know
all that makes me tick.

You may never know
that the essence of me
dances around inside
and teases the right eye.

You may tell all
that I am a type
to sort away and define
without a second thought.

You may feel content
to sum me up quick
without a question
as to what I may hold.

You may notice a look
that invites you to push
a relationship through
doors bursting to bloom.

Happy Thursday to all of you who sort of "get" me :)

I've seen the "real you" come through many times reading your posts. This was a nice summing up, thought.

Isn't it weird when we feel like "strangers" know us better than people who we have known forever. That happened to me recently with someone in my life who had many wrong ideas about me and I thought how sad that is. What a great poem! You are very talented and I'm so glad I found your blog!

It's amazing how much of our identity does shine through on our blogs, with our words. Thanks for sharing here :)

My daughter went away to college at 18.
Now she's nearly 30... married with two toddlers... twins on the way.

How have I gotten to know her in her absence?
Her blog.

For Kelly:

More than meets the eye!

Behind the hedge: a garden.
Behind the wall: a field.

The hedge has a gate.
The wall does too.

The passer by... passes by.
But those who enter... enter in

To savor the garden.
To ponder the field.

The gate is there.
And the curious enter in

We don't play hard to get...
But few get us...

Because...
Not so many...
Enter in!

And only a few...
the precious few...
linger and return.

Gotcha!
Do you think we share more of ourselves with strangers simply because they are not 'too close'?

I think some of us open ourselves up to a stranger because they may not judge as quickly as someone who is close. Strangers tend to be more open-minded than a loved one or friend who think they know who you really are. At least that's my experience so far. Beautifully penned thoughts Kelly. You are a flower, unraveling one petal at a time.

What a beautiful poem. You capture how people try to define a person, but don't appreciate the complexity of real person. Beautiful!

Kelly I loved this! I don't there's one person among my friends that know the whole me. Certain friends bring out different parts of me and I think the only person who knows the whole me if my husband.

Beautiful, Kelly!
Wouldn't it be fun if you could take all of your blogging buddies and put them on one residential block? Oh, the fun we would have!!!

It is weird to be "known" by those who don't know us and "unknown" by those who do know us. Some day hopefully the two shall mix and meet.

well done.
