Reason, please visit this Sweet Child Of Mine

Reason, please come knocking on my twelve year old's door soon. I truly would love to see you do your magic and help me have a rational conversation with my soon to be teenager. Mr. Moody has taken your spot in my son's head. This busy mom could really use your assistance.

Sincerely with great hope,

A battle ready and sometimes worn Mama

P.S. If you could send Mr. Cooperation to my house, I would truly be in your debt.

Here's a video from my not so reasonable days as a teenager. I'm sure my Mom has stories of some our confrontational encounters back in those days. I guess I can take this ride with my guy, bumps and all.

This is still a good song!

Awesome song and post. I have a small fear of the junior high years. I know I have a long way to go. But, I am sure that I will be asking for your advice. :)

Don't expect too much from your son or even try to understand. He'll soon be going through a gruelling and emotional time. It will be pass. Just be there for him, firm, strong, and loving. God bless you.

It's funny isn't it Kelly? For young people your son's age he undoubtedly thinks that YOU'RE being unreasonable. I remember looking at adults and thinking YOU don't have a clue. Well, they did have a clue, but what they could not possibly have, not being me, was exactly what I was feeling inside.

I am not a parent but I imagine that some serious reasoning, even letting some things go, is needed on both sides. Yes, parents are there to guide but it is very difficult to really know exactly what kids are feeling; often times they feel and even understand but are unable to express with the clarity of adults so what we see it unreasonableness.

Now, to be sure, dear sister, dear friend, I have no idea whatsoever what's happening. (I trust my words are not intrusive.) These are just general observations. I have 26 nieces and nephews and nine remaining siblings. Watching their interactions for these many years, the oldest nephew is 26, has been a life experience in and of itself.

I send my very best to you and yours Kelly. I pray that wisdom forever sits on your right shoulder and grace on the other. You are a beautiful mom. Know this.

I remember a colleague once telling me she was convinced aliens had abducted her daughter when she became a teen. And then one day they just returned her.

Hang in there.

Oh I remember that song. I have those days with my 9 year old. Why does it start so early?

I'm with you! Thankfully those days are all in the past with my son and all too soon you'll wonder where all the time went. It does get better lol!

Yeah this is definitely not a stage I'm looking forward to. And I'm sure prior to it every parent thinks their kid will go through it without any trouble but I'm sure that's just not the way it happens. Good luck and please, please let us know what works:)

Kelly, put your seat belt on for this is a long and bumpy ride. I did it with my 20 yr old daughter and still have three more to go. I'm currently at the 14 year-old, starting high school stage. By the time the 4 yr old prince evolves my hair is going to be all white. I think girls are worse at this stage. Prayer, patience and lots of ice cream or chocolate. *HUGS*

I have to say that the years between 12 and 18 I don't miss at all. Of course we had good times too but the moods....oh my. And having both species, I do have to say the girls are worse so I guess, prepare yourself for that. And I agree with T Rex Mom, you do feel like they've been abducted by aliens. Good Luck!

Septembermom...I agree with everyone before me. You are entering rough waters and we will pray for you and your husband. I don't mean to be overly dramatic but when those hormones surge...it is like the kid has been possessed by another personality!!

Have faith though that any damaged done during this time will heal over once this time has passed...keep your chin up!

By the way...great G and R song!

I still love this song! Brings back all kinds of memories... The teen years are tough and soon I will be facing them... Hang in there and know you are not alone. Hopefully Mr. Moody will hit the road!

This is my take on teenagers, having one of my own and more than a few who've adopted me.

God made teeangers so that when they reach 18 we'll be ready for them to leave. If they didn't become teenagers and they were still cute, cuddly, funny and loving, we'd never let them grow up to become independent.

It gets better. Surprise him with love, it always works for me. Sometimes when he seems a little grouchy I will clean his room and bath while he is at school. One day he came home and said in mock sarcasm. "Mom stop making my bed and cleaning. Stop making my life better" Then we laughed.

It's always amazing to me how well our kids know how to push our buttons, rock our boats, and raise our blood pressure.

Ain't karma a b____?

This sounds tough Septembermom...I guess in hindsight I may have given my parents a bit of grief lol. But once he hits his 20's, he will say thanks mom for sure. Just hang in there : )

Gosh I love that song!!! But have you seen Axl lately? He looks very strange and very Botoxed and very plastic. Too bad.

And I hope Mr Reason and Cooperation show up soon ... I'm frightened for the teen years!
