One of my poetry quickfires

Remember when I said that I would try poetry quickfires once in a while? Well, here's what I came up with during a five minute break as the kids watched Elmo. Thanks for reading!

Pencil Me

Crumpled up sketch of me
lying in a dusty corner.
Half used tools pushed aside
through life's tumbles.
Scratched up composition
begs to be named.
My indefinite floats around
waiting for the right net.

You've just described motherhood in a few short lines. Beautiful. You do more in five minutes than many do in hours.

This is wonderful! I know this feeling. I often felt this way when my children were small. As a mom you give so much...something has to give to get it all done and often it is that piece of our self that gets tossed in to the corner.
Now mine are grown and I find that I am dusting off the once crumpled self and discovering the me that was ignored for far too long.

Thank you for this. It was lovely!

Have a Beautiful Day!

Very nice, Kelly. The process of life and that of writing are deeply felt, the indescribable need to express oneself and the opaqueness that belies it. Please write more.

Ewww, You are good. I am so not a poet or an artist and am so jealous of people that can write and draw.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

You sound like a busy mom. Impressive that you're able to write poetry in the few free minutes you have!

Some days are pencil me days while others are painted with oils. Your poetry is heartfelt and spirit lifted. Your soul may seem as if crumbled and swept aside, yet your words speak different. You've captured yourself if only for a moment. Your net is not empty but filled with a multitude of talent and soul. So multi-task dear September mom , take notes and pencil you in, if only for a moment. Your composition will dry and it's Masters hand will autograph the corner. Your net has come, so pencil away and grace our eyes, our minds, our souls with your words. We won't mind the dust. Love and Light, Nina P.

How do you do that? Love it. I think this poem could be read over and over with slightly different interpretations each time.

This is a very good poem. Sometimes our best writing comes out when we are not giving it much thought. I love this verse: "Scratched up composition begs to be named." Write on!

I like it! Sometimes I think the best stuff comes when we don't think too much about it!

I love the part about the indefinite floating, waiting for the right net. Like Teri said, you can interpret this differently with each reading, which makes for such a thought provoking piece.

This made me kind of sad. The crumpled up picture in the corner. You evoke such emotion with your poetry. It's a true gift!

"Scratched up composition
begs to be named."

I like this line. And the last. "floats around, waiting for the right net."

I liked the use of strong verbs and picturesque comparisons.

Nicely done in only 5 minutes!! That is impressive. You paint a picture of your self and state of mind in so few words.

Lovely! Simply lovely. I can't believe you wrote that during elmo! During elmo, I just retreat into a dark, quiet place and drift... Anything to avoid that voice!

Identity of self, an existence undefined often forgotten; begging to be named but life's challenges and responsibilities forces one to ignore themselves until the desired, defining momentum arrives to shape and mold. In the interim, the soul feels out of sync, like a puzzle piece that doesn't fit with the rest of the world. Interesting analogy of a sketch in respect to purpose, self-conception.
