Poetically inclined about the pool today

A beauty by Monet. I don't swim with waterlilies. But aren't the colors so inviting?

"Water Therapy"

Four decades may sit on my shoulders,
but my eyes will dive through blue.

The warmest sun freckles my arms,
as I lay back to accept the cool.

Worries evaporate for an ounce of time,
but caution keeps young mermaid close.

A boisterous setting to meditate,
as welcome water filters unease.

Jillian would love that I referred to her as a mermaid :) Can you tell that I'm missing the pool today? Our town pool closed yesterday. Unfortunately, thunder decided to interrupt our pool plans on that last day. After devoting 30 minutes towards sun lotion application on all 6 of us, I wasn't too thrilled to have to turn around right after we parked the minivan. The kids weren't happy either. At least, I'm glad that we did get a lot of pool time in this summer. It was a great sanctuary for me :) I guess cool showers will be my next best substitute.

That stinks that thunder ruined your plans on the last day that pool was opened! I can't believe summer is coming to an end already!

Such beautiful words as always!

Kelly, this is very beautiful and the title is brilliant. The pool, the ocean, all seem to have a kind of natural therapy, self-medication. Nice choice on the painting. Monet is a great painter. Keep the poetry flowing girl!

Septembermom...we are coming into your "September" month! Already...as you I miss those Summer days. Great reflection on Summer memories.

Also...I just saw your post on PPP...I have been so busy lately, I haven't stopped by PPP as much as I would like but I love your post:

"Walk me not through that field
of worry, grief, neglect.

Walk me towards that hope
of souls free of fear.

I really like the ability to put so much thought in very few words...something I cannot master.

I like the poem. I took the mermaid to be the writer, who is somewhat reluctant to give up all worries, as even the last line seems to support: the unease isn't quite melted away.

Poems are like kids... they take on a life of their own. ;-) (If this poem is still in flux...)

For cohesion... perhaps dismissing the middle two lines of this part:

Worries evaporate for an ounce of time,
but caution keeps young mermaid close.

A boisterous setting to meditate,
as welcome water filters unease.

Yielding:

Worries evaporate for an ounce of time,
as welcome water filters unease.

A closer tie to the theme: "Water Therapy"?

Or you can ignore me completely! ;-)

Water is also so calming to me and I loved this poem, along with the choice of painting to accompany it. Luckily we have one more week at our pool so I think I will take advantage of your experience and try to get one more good dousing in before it closes.

Very nice, Kelly. Vivid images and storytelling.

Beautiful. I was just sitting here as the brisk Michigan air comes in my window, "Did I accomplish all of my Summer ideas and thrills?" I thought I had more time. Another lesson learned. :)

What a beautiful poem Kelly! Sorry to hear about your sanctuary closing:( Things have definitely chilled down here as well. It's hard to know how to dress Deaglan in the mornings for daycare.

Just got your comment on my blog so stopped by to see what you're blogging about. Found this beautiful poem. It's been years since I've written any poetry but you've inspired me. Maybe I'll try writing a little something again and sharing it with the community... Thanks.
