Sunday Citar - Teachers
For "Sunday Citar", Fresh Mommy invites us to share interesting, insightful or funny quotes. Today I would like to spotlight the teaching profession with the following quotes.
Big hugs to my bloggy friends who are teachers :) Thanks to all the teachers who encourage creativity, critical thinking, inquisitiveness, compassion, cooperation, perseverance and kindness. I could go on and on, but I think I'll let these quotes continue the tribute.
He who opens a school door, closes a prison.
- Victor Hugo
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child. - Carl Jung
Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire. - William Butler Yeats
Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. - Benjamin Franklin
My Mom always talks about giving children the chance to "blossom". Dedicated and caring teachers are wonderful gardeners for the the spirit and the soul. They know how to give the careful and often tender attention necessary for a child's beauty to shine.

I love all of those quotes! Teachers need to hear them, to have them pinned to their hearts. So important to realize how important they are.
I have always loved that Benjamin Franklin quote. Perfect. I am not ready to think about school yet though. Thanks for your anniversary wishes! You are always so kind!
Don't we all have a special teacher or two who really stood out in our education, really moving us to test limits, or expand our thinking, or know ourselves better? When a teacher reaches our minds like that, we never forget them.
This is so especially moving today, as we remember Frank McCourt and all he did as a teacher before he became a famous writer. He left the world not just his books but the books of those he inspired.
Thanks so much for this and for all your blogs and poems, which I do read, and often think — wait, I have to think about how I'll comment, and then I never come up with something smart enough.
such wonderful quotes!
I love the first and the last quotes!! Now that I am a mom, I think teachers hold the weight of hte world.
Teachers are the best.
Ah, thank you, Kelly, for such words of wisdom. They are much appreciated.
Wonderful quotes you share with us today. Good teachers change our lives. I have a few I remember so fondly...
Oh - I loved your quotes! I heart #3
All the quotes are good. Reading the one by Victor Hugo I thought what a pity so many kids play truant.
All of them are awesome ... I just especially relate to the one by Ben Franklin. And since I am a school teacher, well - thanks for being so nice!!!
Hey Septembermom,
Wondeful tribute to teachers and those are truly fantastic quotes.
We just got back from our family reunion. One of the uncles there was a teacher for 50 years. Even at 89, he still manages to challenge my thoughts and get me to thinking.
The chance to blossom really is exactly what each teacher's mission should be. I have the conversation a lot about how each child will have is own passion and own way to make it successfully through life (defined as a constructive way of being happy). It's the teachers' jobs to give those children the chance to find and develop those passion. Beautiful!
Totally perfect! Love the quotes, I think we really do have to let children blossom! What a great post!

I have been very lucky with Elijah's teachers so far. We have loved them!! I did a scrapbook for his kindergarten teacher with pics from all fieldtrips and parties. I used the last 3 quotes that you listed in the scrapbook. She was very special to us and she loved the book. I told her not to tell his future teachers though since it was a lot of hard work!!! ha!
Such a beautiful post with wonderful quotes. I think everyone had a teacher that changed them for the better and that's a wonderful thing to have encountered.
Those are such wonderful quotes!
As a mother and teacher, I thank you for the lovely post honoring teachers. I knew from a young age that I was called to teach, and was blessed to have had some wonderful teachers who inspired me.

Great post Kelly. :) I love that God gave me the gift of working with children. I wanted to be a teacher when I was little. :) I am blessed to work with children and their families. Besides parenting I think it is one of the most rewarding professions.
What an awesome post! Seriously, a brilliant tribute to one of the most under-appreciated professions. All of the quotes are inspiring, especially Ben Franklin's. Nice job :)
Love these ... how true is this one...
He who opens a school door, closes a prison.
