Sunday Citar - Acting Quotes

For today's Sunday Citar hosted by Fresh Mommy, I found some interesting quotes about acting. Have you ever watched Inside the Actor's Studio? Actors and directors reveal often fascinating perspectives on acting. Here are some quotes from past and present actors.

"Acting is standing up naked and turning around very slowly." Rosalind Russell

"If you give audiences a chance, they'll do half your acting for you." Katharine Hepburn

"The actor should be able to create the universe in the palm of his hand." Laurence Olivier

"Playing Shakespeare is very tiring. You never get to sit down, unless you're a king." Josephine Hull

"Therapy? I don't need that. The roles that I choose are my therapy." Angelina Jolie

“With any part you play, there is a certain amount of yourself in it. There has to be, otherwise it's just not acting. It's lying.”
Johnny Depp

"I'm curious about other people. That's the essence of my acting. I'm interested in what it would be like to be you." Meryl Streep

Enjoy your Sunday! Wish me luck today as I need to "put on my actor's mask" to get through my in-law visit :)

Take a bit of advise from the actors you mentioned in your post. I think they'll all tell you something...
Good Luck!

I absolutely LOVE "Inside the Actors Studio." I wondered if it still aired or not. I'm a bit out of the loop with TV since mine is always on Sesame Street, Wiggles or something of that nature. Even if it wasn't an actor/actress I knew well, I'd sit and watch the entire episode. I guess it's because of what Meryl Streep said, I find other people's lives more fascinating than mine. I've always loved biographies. If I ever work for a newspaper or magazine, I'd want to do the features on people because I so enjoy learning about others. Good luck at your MIL's today. I try to do that with my FIL but it doesn't go over so well - he's a retired FBI agent who specializes in body language so I know he reads my signs when I'm bored or uncomfortable. LOL! Enjoy your Sunday.

Fun post. (What's a Citar?)

After all the acting quotes, I loved your closing. Coupled with the Depp quote, at least you're only acting, and not lying!

Happy Sunday!

Don

What I find interesting about these is that really, you can substitute "writing" for the "acting" in many of them, and get the same effect!

Good luck today :)

Oh bless you...inlaws are a divine distraction (no sarcasm intended). My mother-in-law is Japanese and I don't understand a word she says so I do a lot of nodding and smiling.

I'm with antoinette marie - I love the quote by angelina jolie. Hope your day of acting went well and I so know what you mean. I paste on my smiling face when my in-laws come by for a visit.

thanks for stopping by my blog. :)

I like the acting quotes. Never heard most of them before, actually, and enjoyed!

Like someone previously mentioned, you could use the same quotes for writing. I also liked the Johnny Depp one. Maybe because I think everything that comes out of his mouth is incredibly charming. :)

I hope that in-law visit went well! Those are some cool quotes. And that Shakespeare one? SO true, but I never thought of that before.

You poor thing. Praying that the visit goes by quickly (and painlessly!)
I love the quote by Johnny Depp. You can tell he really means it by the way he seems to pour his heart and soul into every role.

Wow! Great quotes - very interesting to hear their thoughts. I also understand about the nodding and smiling to get through visits with certain people. :) And it is nice to think of it as acting instead of lying!

I also agree with the comments made about Johhny Depp. He seems sincere to me, and he is incredibly charming too.

This is so much fun! :)

I LOVE inside the actor's studio. Shaune hates it so I feel lucky when I get a chance to catch it.

Hope your visit went well. I know all about that kind of thing!!
