Stormy morning

As my son and I walked through teeming rain this morning, we saw a lightning bolt strike the ground behind the school. That's a rare sight in our neck of the woods. My 9 year old son usually complains that he doesn't want to go to school each day. Today, he said, "Mom, pick up the pace. Let's get to the school quick so we're safe." Mother Nature sure knows how to get my son to stop dragging his heels on a rainy school morning. I was also glad to get back to the homestead. My husband was watching my two younger ones for me as I dropped off the big guy at school. You should have seen their little concerned faces at the window as I pulled up. Question after question spilled out of them about my 10 minute drive through the thunderstorm. "Mom, were you scared?" "Mommy, you didn't drive fast, right?" "Mom, lightning didn't hit the van?" It was sweet to see how they worried about my welfare out in the elements this morning.

I could see the love in their eyes today.

I dedicate this song to my wonderful kids.

I'm so lucky to have them.

It is touching to see when your kids are concerned for you, the parent! Great story.

I have one about walking with my daughter when she was little, and there was lightening in the distance. She said, "We don't have to worry b/c we have Jesus, right?"

When do your kids get out of school?

Sounds like you have some sweet kiddos. :)
And they're still in school?! School has been out down here for weeks. It's officially summertim. Except for all of us working professionals who still have to sit in a cubicle every day without so much as a window to enjoy the sunshine. *Sigh*

Your children are so thoughtful! Crazy weather here too, rain, humid, random lightning and thunder all morning. It's been a punky spring, for sure.

Indeed, that is sweet that they were so concerned for you. Sometimes when I tell my little one that's I'm tired and need some rest he'll pat my back. That always just melts my heart. I cannot wait until he can question me about something!

Enjoy the thundershowers!

What a beautiful post. Kids are usually as thoughtful and beautiful as their mom. Thanks for sharing this. We had such weather yesterday evening just as I had finished a shortened bike ride. I could feel it coming. Do stop by my blog. There is a special blessing there for you to receive.

Wow, that's actually really cool. I've never seen lightning strike. But way to use it as motivation ;)

Hey Septembermom,

That storm was quite severe and broke me from my sleep. I'm glad you and the kids got to school safely.

That is sooo sweet! Sometimes when kids sense their parents might be in danger or hurt, they get very worried. I get dizzy when I get up too fast and sometimes I hit my head against the wall. It's funny when I see Moe get really worried and then he scolds me about getting up too fast. I can't help but smile.

Thank you for sharing this very touching story. Sometimes we might think that our children do not really love us because of their behavior, but this just shows that they really do, they just might not say it but show it in other ways. Your children are very caring about their mother, this is so sweet. I know it makes you feel good.
