Not Scarlet Anymore

My all over rosiness has faded. The antibiotics are kicking in, and I'm feeling much better. I look forward to getting my appetite back. It will be nice to enjoy tasting something yummy again.

This scarlet fever literally sneaked up on me at the end of a busy week. Even though I wasn't feeling so great, I had to get the published books out for my son's school. I would type a book here and there between housework and the kids' activities. On Friday night, my son participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. I was with him at the field on and off throughout the night. We came home around 1 a.m.

On Saturday morning, my feet were extremely itchy. After pulling off the sheets, I discovered a rash covering my feet and legs. I knew that it was scarlet fever because my 9 year old had it two years ago. I never had a sore throat this past week so I didn't think that I could possibly have a strep infection. Afraid of letting the infection go on too long, I went to the hospital to get treatment. As my husband juggled the four kids at home, I sat in the exam room for two hours reading my book. Overall, I felt pretty good. No appetite and itchy, but nothing too bad. My hospital time became some "mommy reading catch up" time. Moms take our quiet moments when we can.

Thanks so much to all of you for your kind words and well wishes! I'm glad to be back:)

so glad to hear that you are feeling better! Other than scarlet fever how is summer treating you. My kids are beating each other up on a regular basis...hmmmm not sure what I'm going to do about that.

Scarlett fever? How exotic. The best I can manage is a summer cold... :(

I haven't heard about scarlet fever in ages. So glad you are feeling better.

And I totally get the quiet mommy reading time wherever you can get it. When I was in school these last few years, I had to grab those moments anywhere I could find them...lacrosse practice, orthodontist, dentist, Scouts.

So sorry I had been tied up with work and didn't get to every post. I had not realised you were ill. Scarlet fever, I didn't realise that was around again. I had that many moons ago as a child. Then I was hospitalized as was the orm in those days for 4 months. I was kept in bed, and had to almost learn to walk again after so long in bed. So glad things have moved on somewhat.

Sorry again, take care and get well soon.

Glad you are doing better! And pass a good word on from me to your husband for his "juggling" the kids! Us dads learn the most about parenting when our wives get sick and we have to care for them. No one wants mom to get better any faster than dad does!

I'm glad you're feeling better. It must have been awful for you with all that itching. At least you managed a couple of hours quiet time but which would you rather have had?

It's so true that we take even times when we're sick as an excuse to get away and have time to ourselves! I mean, it really stinks to be feeling sick, but it's just so nice to have some time alone and really relax! BUT it is THAT much worse to be sick and then have to take care of kids on top of it because your hubby's working and whatnot. Glad you're on the up-in-up!

I'm so glad that you're feeling better and that you were able to get some downtime even if it was in the waiting room! I had a friend who flew from the west coast to the east coast just to read a book, i guess you take mommy time whenever you can!

I was kinda hoping you'd come over and infect me so I can have a few hours to myself in the ER, too!!! Doesn't sound half bad!

I'm glad you're feeling better, Kelly, and I hope noone else at your house catches it!

My goodness!!! Glad to hear you are feeling better. Moms (and teachers) should never have to get sick. It is awful. Try not to/Don't jump back in too quick. :)

I'm so glad you went to the hospital immediately. And also glad you got some me time even if it was in the waiting room. Let's hope this ends the cycle of sick at your house. But it was probably good for your hubbie to have to juggle a little. Nice reminder of what you do all day everyday!

I'm glad you got to sneak in some "mommy time" while getting treatment ... though of course I wish you didn't have to get treatment at all. Yay for antibiotics!

Oh, I've been away from your pages for a little bit and I am so very happy that you are feeling better. Godspeed continuously, Kelly!

BTW - I thought scarlet fever was something that only the Bronte sisters or some other literary characters from ages ago got. You are special! :-)
