Poetry on the side

The more I grow as a poet; the more I see that I have a unique view of things. My loving family supports my creativity, but they don't necessarily want to engage in this kind of discussion or exploration. I know that poetry is not for everyone, but I see how it can be a very solitary experience. At times, that's o.k. Sometimes, it would be nice to look across the table and discuss what I'm trying to accomplish in my poetry. Well, I do have 4 kids. Hopefully, one of them will follow in Mama's footsteps :)

Who Hears Me?

Poetry awaits in me
to be viewed by some.
Those of my everyday
choose another window.
Wrenches my soul a bit
to be unseen by my loves.

Daily dance of topics
keeps happy home moving.
My life twirls through modes
as the poet awaits a partner.
Family and poetry dance
with receptive me in turn.

Thanks to all of you out there who seem to "get me" and my poetry! My husband is grateful that he is not my target audience anymore. You should have seen his face when I used to take a minute to share one of my poems. Deer in headlights!

I also especially like the lines:
"Wrenches my soul a bit
to be unseen by my loves."
Awe how that is said so perfectly. This so wrenches my soul as well.

Well it's kind of nice that right now you have two dance partners ... poetry and family. I suspect one of your children will follow along. It seems like when a mother has a passion, a love for an art, that love is contagious!

I love how you described your husband. Too funny. Well, you have an audience awaiting you everyday here. It's always great to read what you have to say.

My hubby is the real poet and I don't mind listening to him talk about it at all. It's inspiring and oh so attractive. . . but when I hear him talking to someone else about basketball or football, I must admit, I feel a huge rush of relief and gratitude that he's found a more captive audience than I am!!

Keep writing!

I think that your verse is so good and I would not be able to even start what you do. I am sure one day you will have a little one follow on.

Keep up the good work.

That line Dani mentioned also got me. Selfishly it took me on my own tangent. I feel like this about my love of psychology and self improvement. Whenever I broach the subject with Shaune, he just gets uncomfortable and irritated. It's been a struggle because sometimes I've thought that we could really use some relationship therapy but it's like pulling teeth to get him to see the value let alone participate. I truly do understand the loneliness you feel about your writing sometimes. But you know what, smart person that you are, you found a very caring and willing audience in this community. I love your poems. They are sweet vulnerable and raw. I hope you do put together an anthology - because this is a serious art form you are partaking in. Follow that passion Kelly - nobody can stop you!

Very nice! Thank you for sharing it. I understand and support you all the way. I love poetry, but my focus now is fiction. Good luck, you have a talent for this.

I do think blogging is a great way to find others who share your interests when your family is -- how shall we say this? -- lukewarm about your passions. For me, it is reading. My husband doesn't like to read and must be forced. But blogging fulfills that need in me and he is relieved to be off the hook. But I know what you mean when the people you love the most don't feel as passionate about what you do!
