What fashion sense

Even before having my kids, I would not have called myself a fashion follower. Hopefully, I chose attractive and appropriate clothes when I was part of the work force. That was over 12 years ago. That fact always makes me wonder where all the time has gone. Anyway, as soon as I popped my first son out, I became part of the mommy comfort clothes movement. Not necessarily a bad affiliation. It's tough to keep a designer, pricey blouse spit up free when baby volcano is around. Even when baby grows up, he seems to be always surrounded by or covered in a mess. So I find myself choosing the same reliable clothes every day. Occasionally, I need to go deep into the back of my closet to find my "nice going out" clothes. It almost feels like I'm playing dress up when I need to put a dress on. Who knows when I'll feel truly comfortable in high heels again. I've been in the comfort zone for so long now. The funny thing is that I do enjoy watching a show like Project Runway. Wearing my comfy pajamas, I'll sit with my husband and comment on the designers' sense of fashion and personal style. Like I know anything about that!

Today I'm wearing a Disney sweatshirt showing all the princesses. My 3 year old daughter loves it and I like making her happy. She probably thinks it's my best outfit in my comfort collection. Her good opinion makes me feel alright about my mommy fashion style.

I totally hear you! When my son was born, I pretty much gave up all semblance of fashion (not that I had it to begin with) and adopted that mommy outfit of comfortable pants, t-shirts and sweatshirts. Today I wore an M&M sweatshirt and jeans -- and I consider those my "dress up" clothese for now. I can't even imagine going back to the workforce and having to wear "real clothes" or real shoes! I guess I'll face that some day but for now, I view the lax dress code as one of the biggest perks of mommyhood!

And I totally love Project Runway! I wish they weren't tied up in legal battles and delaying the current season! Argghh!

And I just want to thank you for the kind kind comments you always leave. They just make me so happy! Thank you.

And I really enjoyed reading the poem in the previous post.

I think we should bring back the fashion of aprons.

That's what we're missing in this new mom culture... the very nice lacy apron over our even nicer full skirted dress and heels. The pearls are good for baby toys, and the red lipstick leaves kiss marks on baby cheeks. When we go out, we can just remove the apron and toss away peanut butter fingerprints.

Now, I can't find a way to make the high heeled pumps attractive. Just not good for running around the playground.

ballet slippers from target! There we go.

I own several Disney sweatshirts, they make me happy! My husband told me that he can always tell what kind of day I'm having by the way I dress when he comes home from work. He knows I've had a really bad day when I wear an old torn tshirt, no bra, and the top of my sweats are folded beneath my belly...I know too much information.

Good for you. I had a friend once make mean comments about sweatshirts, and I don't think I've donned one since (except at football games, of course). I think I may go put one on for tomorrow now!

Mommy fashion is about being comfortable! I feel like I live in work out pants (which I don't work out in...but they are so comfy) and tunics. Filp flops whenever I can... Fashion Smashion :)

Funny, as I type this in my sweatpants and comfy sweater! (Hey, playgroup isn't for another two hours!) C'est la vie of us mommies. I do get my heels out every now and then and wear them out. Makes carrying the toddler exciting!

Being out of the workforce for a few years left me wearing the same comfort clothes again and again. When I returned to school 2 years ago, I regained some semblance of "style" as I saw what everyone else was wearing. All still really, really comfortable - just a bit more up to date now.

Oh, my daughter would be thrilled if I had a princess sweatshirt! A few years ago, my kids absolutely loved a Sesame Street tee I wore....well, I'm in the workforce (well, at least for now...assuming I can find a new job following my layoff...) and I still prefer comfy clothes.
