All That Is Good And Beautiful In Kids

All 40 inches of Jillian happily skipped down the school hallway with me to Joseph's class. She was excited because she knew that we were going to interview some happy 2nd grade authors about their stories that would be published in the school publishing center.

When I was a little girl, I was a bundle of shyness. Apparently, I have shelved my shyness for now because I turn into Ronald McDonald (without the big shoes) when I visit Joseph's class. Jillian thinks it's funny how I announce to the class in a silly voice, "Anyone here have a bestselling book to publish?" Well, the kids all know me and my zaniness this year. (This must be my midlife crisis persona kicking in these days.) My Joseph's Irish heritage reveals itself as he blushes nice and pink as Mama gathers a bunch of eager little authors for our interview sessions.

It has been such a pleasure this year to see all the enthusiasm and creativity naturally blossoming out of all these life loving 2nd graders. Each time, Jillian and I work with the kids is a gift in many ways. We leave the school with the biggest smiles and such hope for this world. Kids are wonderful, and I look forward to seeing all the positivity and greatness coming out of this upcoming generation.

Too many people see the negative behavior in kids today. I choose to be optimistic and trusting about these kids' future. The spark of life, love, joy, creativity, and fellowship never leaves a child, even when they hit those tough teen years. As adults, we just have to remember to encourage "this little light of mine - I'm gonna let it shine."

I agree with you that many people look too much at the negative aspects in kids. Well, I may be guilty of it in some cases...but when I used to teach and was in constant touch with children of all ages...from 12 to 17/18, I loved them them and saw their positive, creative, lively side. I wonder why I feel nervous about my grand-daughter going to school now...she's only 15 months and I'm already a bit worried! I must take your suggestion and be more open minded.

Look for goodness and you will find it. Hope, it is our magic wand.

Kids are so fun and free and honest. If we are lucky our childhood goodness and imaginations stay with us.

Great post! Encouragement! I love it!

Those kids are so lucky to have you! What a bright shiny spot you must be in their day :) I fully believe laying the foundation now, gives kids a place to return to after they go through their teen years. I think when you see the glimmers of the positive, those sparks just never leave us, its just a matter of time before they ignite into a capable and productive adult! With the help of people like you that is :)

Oh Kel, you just filled me with your hope and joy. You are a natural born mother and teacher. I am certain every single one of those kids will look back and remember how wonderful joseph's mother is/was. How delightful that you get to share these times with Jillian!!

Your post made me sorry I am on summer vacation! I miss "my" kids. I love how you are getting them all excited about reading and writing at such a young age. You sound like a natural-born teacher. How lucky they are!

You don't just have the gift of writing, Kelly, you specialise in being a teacher and a mom.

You may have smiles when you leave, but I know you leaves smiles behind, too.

And it is wonderful that she sees you doing this. Leading by example is so wonderful for children.

Giving them special experiences is half the job. They'll never forget. Well done!
Did you dress up as Ronald McDonald without the shoes?
