A is for Auto Pilot & National Poetry Month

Getting in gear for the A to Z blogging challenge of April.

Once that alarm goes off at 5:50 AM each weekday, I have to quickly get into auto pilot to get my guys moving in the morning. On auto pilot each day, I zoom through the house in my pajama pants (hopefully the ones with the drawstring that actually works).

Every minute seems to have a task that needs to get done. I used to think that I should exercise each morning. Now I see that I'm probably burning calories during that hectic hour and a half on school mornings. When I finally sit down to eat my scone or English muffin at 8:40 AM, I usually let out a good sigh until Jillian walks over at 8:43 AM with her big blue eyes and says, "Mommy, I'm bored. Do you have any ideas?" Then I turn into a cruise director for my favorite little girl.

I don't mind my auto pilot button. I like being the Energizer bunny of the family. My batteries are pretty low by 11 PM, but I'm glad that I kept this rickety old ship running for another day.

It's National Poetry Month!! Hooray! Later on, I'm going to write a poem for Fridays Poetry over at Write With Pictures. It will be a quick one, just something off the top of my head. I hope to see all you spontaneous poets at WWP. Thanks!

Quick poetic update: It's 6:04 and the hungry kids are following me. Here's my little poem based on a cool picture over at Write With Pictures:

Feel the subtle roar inside
beckoning the self to engage
and soar over and through
the organized whirl of motion
sculpting a moment of risk.

Yes, you take me back, I still run the sloop at our house. My kids are older, but I swear if I wasn't home to get my college bound son up for school...well, he would be living here, longer. I am trying to find my path in the sea of life~ Welcome to the A-Z blog challenge~

I don't like auto pilot... I like to have some realiziation of what I'm doing and what's going on around me. Hugs :O)

Years ago when raising three children I lived on auto pilot too. We keep on keepin' on, and get the jobs done! Yes, I remember it well!

Autopilot can be both handy and dangerous at the same time. Sometimes I get into autopilot and miss the exit I need. But it is handy around the house.

I hope some day you get to go on a real cruise and have someone handle all that stuff for you so you can enjoy a break 24/7. You certainly deserve it.

If it weren't for the auto pilot button in the mornings, I don't think I'd make it to work intact!

Fun post!

It's funny just how much I do on autopilot. Sometimes I find I miss lot of the details. You're off to a great start with the challenge. I look forward to reading more from you.

I love this verse, I can see it all in my mind. And it's funny you should talk about autopilot. Some days I feel like one of those robotic automatons. :)

sometimes autopilot is what we need
when we lack focus
when we lack speed.

I think every mom runs on auto pilot in the morning!

Auto-pilot is okay sometimes, but sometimes you have to be cruise director as well. Parenting can be exhausting for sure.

Contrary to my usual practice of subscribing to comments, to save time during challenge I will not be doing so during April. If you want to respond to my comment , please email me directly from your email notification for the comment.
Thanks.

Auto pilot is indeed useful when you have a lot to do and do not know where to start.
I have also joined the A to Z challenge on my art blog

and I look forward to reading more of your posts for the challenge.

I remember the days on auto pilot. I used to reach the office and wonder how I got there. No part of the bus journey was remembered.

Does Jillian ever call you Julie McCoy?

Auto pilot. uh-huh. Oh yeah! No memories of how we finished homeschool, and all our other things on our to do list. It's night and supper is over and I go, "It's nighttime all ready?" :)

BTW, that poem is fantastic. I'm going to seriously write one and send it to you one of these days. :)

I like the alphabet posts! Do you have a twitter account because you can tweet poetry (140 characters or less) to NPR's tell Me More and they will read it on air

I agree, you are most definitely getting lots of exercise getting that crew of yours moving. Love the poem Kell! You have a way with words that really pack a punch.
