Poetry Quickfire

To Cool the Soul

Convinced that a memory of sensation will pry
free the strangle hold parching my will,
I stop the stir of the pot and guarding of the time
as I dream to gather rain and flood me.

Determined to absorb that rushing downpour
deep into my veins and wring out my burden,
I place my worn hands on the crying window
as I ache to empty me and rain dance.

Back on the poetry quickfire bandwagon again. As I'm trying to get this poem out, I'm telling two of my children to please let Mama have "her time." It's challenging sometimes to let that whole poetic me come out to "play" when the kids are pushing for the everyday me to get this or that. Hope this poem makes some sense. It feels rough, but you know what? So do I right now. Can you tell that the kids are home very early these days? LOL. Two more days until summer vacation. Am I ready? Watch out for that next downpour, I may be very tempted to dance a little on my deck :)

I have MISSED your poetry quickfire!! Thanks for fulfilling my withdrawls ;-)

I am aching now reading your words though for I wish I could whisk you away for some dancing fun.

At the very least, stop by my place (when the kids are asleep) and let my words take you back on a musical journey. I just wrote about "the soundtrack of my life" in my latest post.

Thinking about you Kelly! Sending you best wishes right at this moment.... can you feel it? I'm sending Bono to your doorstep too (my dog, not the musician... hahahah!)

Yeah! She's back :) Love it, especially the second stanza. I can see your face against the clouded pane, feel the longing for release with every drop. As you know I adore the rain, an ultimate symbolism for cleansing soul. Keep them coming!

LOVE it! Glad to see you were able to squeeze in a bit of "momma time"!

I am surprised to see that they are even still in school. I think the kids around here have been out for about a month already!

I think there is a rawness to your words that I can relate to on a cell level of my being... I too struggle with letting creativity out when it wants to be expressed.

Its good to hear your poetic voice... thank you for your prayers :)

I really enjoyed your poem. I can also relate to having small children, who, by their very nature, distract, we, being Mother's, must tune in to those distractions, so we can follow our path to creativity. Time will pass, but there are precious moments to write about as you gaze into their little faces. I so relate to the rain and the dancing!!

It wasn't a very good poem...more like sensational! Am I to understand that with all the typing you've been doing and especially of late, that you haven't compiled your very own creative words for the world to enjoy? Shame on you, but thanks for sharing this one.

Septembermom...you mentioned that you always get your "color" boost when you visit my blog...I always get a boost as well when I visit yours. Your incredibly honest poetry and day to day posts of a hard working mother and wife always remind jolt me back to reality...something I need from time to time.
Thanks,

Dan

I really wanted to say that I felt the depth of emotion so beautifully and powerfully expressed. I'm not an expert on the construction or delivery of poetry but you are as good as good gets and greater than most in my book.

With four kids, I'm surprised you can even have a coherent thought ... let alone write poetry!

Kelly! So glad to be over at your place again. How I have missed you. How have you been?

This poem is so very lovely. This is the type of poem, that as I read it, I said, "I wish I'd written that."

Beautiful! So I take it the kids are doing great! *hugs*

Beautiful writing Septembermom. Certainly one of your best poems to date. I can't believe you can let the creativity pour with all the things you have to juggle. I'm impressed! Have a great day :)

Wait wait wait, your kids are still in school? Wow. We're halfway through summer school already!

And I did like that poem. It was rough, but it had a great movement and feel to it.
