This Mama's Drama

Way back when before the time of the Internet, I was a young girl rushing home to see some of the drama unfolding between Luke and Laura on "General Hospital." My gal pals and I were transfixed in front of the ONE TV in our homes, hoping to see sighs and glances exchanged between those 70's soap opera royals. There may be some of you (as old as me) who remember those days. That was the extent of my drama in my young life.

Now as a Mama, I find that I don't need to turn on a soap opera to add some drama to my day. It's 2:14 p.m. now. My oldest son will be home in about 10 minutes. Here are some examples of the drama that he may bestow upon me as he bolts through the door.

"Mom, I told you that this shirt was no good." Flashback to the morning conversation concerning this subject. He said: "Mom, what do you think about this shirt?" I said: "It's fine." Conversation ended. Too bad I couldn't read his mind to know that he wasn't too thrilled with that shirt selection.

"Mom, I hate turkey. Why do you keep giving me turkey?" Flashback to the morning conversation concerning the subject. I said: "How about turkey?" He said: "Grunt." I guess I should learn how to translate teenage caveman grumbling.

"Mom, why do you look at my Facebook page? Flashback to the initial conversation about this subject. He begged: "Mom, please, please, please let me go on Facebook?" I said: "Only if I can check out your page once in a while." He said: "Of course. No problem." I guess I should have put that agreement in writing.

Well, now it's 2:22. The drama of my thirteen year old will begin shortly. Should I get some popcorn to prepare for this latest saga?

I would have some with you but for obvious reasons, I'll have to stick with a pound of bacon instead. Luke and Laura...ahhhh...either I wasn't allowed to watch it or it was slightly before my time or both. Setting the PVR and waiting for the drama...

Remember the big Luke & Laura wedding? My daughters watch GH now, and Luke is still on, with occasional Laura appearances too. I don't think any of the contemporary soap stars have the status those two had back in the day.

You do bring back fond memories of when my three children were young. Never a dull moment,
hectic but wouldn't have it any other way.
Now they are parents themselves I wonder where have all the years gone. Somehow, the roles have reversed and they somtimes are amazed at what I say or do........Thanks for the memories.

Take care.
Yvonne.

Yea'uh, but you dont remember "The Edge of Night". Drama? I think half the battle is being able to foretell the event, now that is a good move..

I'm kind of young but I use to watch GH with my mom growing up and still do to this day.. still plenty of drama on there, I am how ever not looking forward to the drama I will have to endure when my girls ages 5,3 now will have when they get that age. My youngest sister is just now getting into all that and I feel so bad for my parents for having to go through this all over again with their last 5th child.. hopefully the teenage years go by quickly!! ;)

LOL Just fair warning, the soap opera continues even into latter teenage years. This conversation is similar to the ones frequently heard in our home with my 16 year old son too and my 14 year old daughter and my 13 year old daughter too. Lord HELP!!!! LOL

I remember the time of Luke and Laura. I don't need that kind of drama anymore either, but it was fun at the time!

My daughter is only nine and the drama is already unfolding. My son is 7 and needs to work on his communication skills. I have to be a mind reader with him. :O)

I can only say that this is why I don't watch TV these days either.... I have enough drama in my life as well and mine doesn't even compare to yours with tweens and four kids. So hugs to you and hang in there! At least maybe it will inspire you to write! ;-)

It's amazing that teenagers have such short term memory loss.

Never got into soaps...however among my circle of shoolmates, Dynasty and Dallas were the two popular soaps of choice.

Wait a minute ... 13-year-olds have Facebook pages!!!???

And this was too funny. Perhaps you should tape record him!

Oh no, teen drama! Well, the truth is he loves you a lot and will be a perfect gentleman when he is older : ) I hope you get a break every now and again. Best wishes.

Oh, you've been at my house this week. Teenagers. My theory is God created teenagers so we are pushing them out of the house at 18. If they were as cute and cuddly as they were as infants, we wouldn't let them go.

Get the popcorn AND a diet coke, lol!

OH LAWD!! Teenage drama!! HA! I am more than happy to say that I have a little while before that occurs!
At Jumpin' Monkey the other day a little girl walks up to me and asks if she can check her facebook on my phone. She had been playing with Autumn so it totally threw me off. She said she was only 7 years old! Can you believe that?! They are starting real young these days!

Ahhhh....Luke and Laura! Those were the days!
I put my whole life on hold back then, just to see what they would do!

As for the drama...My "babies" are 31 and 27...the drama continues...except now they don't want me to do anything about it, they just want to vent. The funniest thing is that now my daughter calls me every day and apologizes for all of the drama....lol I just ask her what 13 year old grandson Jacob has done now!

heehee, lots for me to look forward to. I cringe what I put my parents through... although, they weren't loving like you.

Popcorn? Yes. And do sit down.

Oh. My. Gosh. Luke and Laura! I haven't watched a soap opera since. I was riveted! The chemistry between those two could have burned down an entire continent.

You better buy popcorn by the 50 gallon bag - and just have a Diet Coke tap installed. It gets worse and worse before it gets better. Teenage boys can be a soap opera all by themselves. (And unfortunately you don't get a volume or on/off switch.)

Things can calm down a bit after you get that call from the Sheriff asking if you have a son named xxxx and ...

Then you can supplement the Diet Coke with rum.

I call that selective teen amnesia! I have a son that does the same thing and sometimes he makes me rethink things when he tells me something that I apparently agreed to until thankfully my husband backs me up and remembers the actual conversation. Sometimes I think we should have our own reality shows so we can play back what our teenagers say!

Oh I totally think you should pull out a bowl of popucorn for that just to see what his reaction would be. I'm so not looking forward to the teen years. Good luck!
