What Maya Is Teaching Me

For maybe only 5 minutes each night, I take in Maya Angelou's words and wisdom as I read her essays that touch the heart and soul and challenge your thinking.

Maya reminds me that...
  • The world needs me, and I need the world.
  • There are subtle ways to communicate and connect.
  • We should always question, reassess and maybe question again. Engage in continuous, dynamic conversation with yourself and all around you.
  • You can make your own rainbows.
  • I am worthy to be heard.
  • Walk hand in hand with peace through your day.
I didn't have any particular passages from Maya in mind when I wrote this list. These are just some thoughts that have been dancing around in my head since I started reading Maya's wonderful essays.

I highly recommend adding a "touch of Maya" to your day. She knows how to reach "you."

She's an amazing woman. I saw her speak on a local college campus, and the audience was so quiet listening to her words, you could hear a pin drop. I think we all left there a little changed for the better.

I've only read her a couple of times, but I remember feeling a need to live life to the fullest. I think I could fit in 5 minutes a day for Maya.

She is so wise. I loved reading her in college, and you've just reminded me that one of her books needs to find a place in my reading soon.

Beautiful! Thanks, Kelly. I posted earlier today on a business blog what she said about being a Christian. When asked if she was one she replied, "So soon?" Hopefully, we are all forever becoming... I hope all is well with you and the family, my dear friend.

"you make your own rainbows" now that is an excellent picture. You can't stop the rain but you can add sunshine or sonshine to it and create the beauty of a rainbow! Love it!
