Poetry quickfire

Folding Up Within

Tower's roof reflects the faintest light
on my labor as I type this word.

Solitary builder can be the poet
with words to barricade me away.

Audience grab hold of my verse
as I call out from my fortress.

Shaky self balances
when the right words mesh.

Connected self stretches
hand through crumbling window.

This is a first! Back to back poetry quickfires. I felt compelled to write this one because I'm wondering about whether my poetry holds too much of me away from the world. I don't even know if I'm "getting" what I'm saying right now. I love to write poetry, but I think I may try my hand at fiction writing for awhile. Sometimes poetry makes me feel cut off from my reader. I do love that poetry is kind of a self dialogue for me. I also appreciate and gain inspiration from knowing that many of my readers find personal connections in my poetry. I just wonder if I need to really jump out there and try a new way of opening myself up through words. What do you think?

Maybe I'm just stir crazy today home with the kids on this snow day :) Sometimes my mind wanders in all sorts of directions! Thank you for reading.

This is an intriguing poem Septembermom. I've never been able to do a "quick fire" poem. Sometimes they can take a little time to develop but you should give short stories and fiction a go. Trying something different can be a lot of fun and you are quite talented.

I love your poetry - keep it coming. But if you try your hand at fiction, I'd read it too!

Be well and don't go too stir crazy in the snow storm.

I think you do relate to us with your poetry-more than you think.

This is all of us when we write on our blogs-reaching out to others with the hope of a shared understanding. I like it, but do what makes you happy Kelly...

I like this one, it kind of gives a sense of architecture to your poetry. Because of how you communicate with your verse, I think you'd be great at writing flash fiction too. Sometimes flash almost seems poetic, the way so much is said with few words.

I love your poetry and feel that it does speak to a lot of your readers. This sentence of yours really hit me though: "I just wonder if I need to really jump out there and try a new way of opening myself up through words." Do you feel sometimes that poetry allows you to express yourself, but in a way that is obscure enough to not have to come out and say what you really want to say? I'm just asking that, because when I have written poetry, it's usually been about something that is emotionally close to me. I can express myself, but because it's poetry, I can keep part of what I am saying, held back in reserve, encoded in the words, so I don't lay fully exposed.

As always, I love your quickfires and am jealous of your ability. :)

I think your poetry is beautiful! I think it expresses you and that relates to us! Write from the heart in whatever way it comes out! Let it be what it is! Don't change for the sake of change! Unless you just want to! :)

I feel like it's been too long since we last 'spoke'. I hope you are well my friend. I don't get to the computer as often as I'd like to (for fun anyway). I'm having some issues with my gmail account but will send you an email soon. Hugs!!

Beautifully (un)folding, the thoughts and wonders of our inner selves--sometimes fleeting other times sustaining. It is the beauty and sometime pain of finding the sentiments to express ourselves and realizing that others have held on to them. Am I bare? I love these quickfires, Kelly.

While poetry feels like a dialogue with the self with the writer, to the readers it speaks directly. Fiction writers feel as if they too are speaking in solitary, even with various voices. It is all dialogue. We are all made of the same stuff.

Keep the quickfires coming, dear friend.

I know what you mean ... poetry seems more open to interpretation than prose. But whatever satisfied your soul is what you should write. And don't you think just writing your blog posts helps you reach out and connect and communicate?

To do, or not to do...
is that the question?

Either, or...
Why not both?

Write on!

GO for it! I find that my poetry is much more revealing than my fiction. My poems leave me feeling exposed.

Give all genres a go. You're such a great writer that i'm sure you'll excel at it all :)

Crazy poet I think not. Words can paint, dance, onto a page creating a mystery, a fantasy, reality. Escape into the pages of pen and ink... write what is in your soul, let the words fly our of the realm of thought onto the concrete pages of tree... You are a wonderful writer dear soul.... whatever is inside, let it out... give it life and create what is in you to create. You have a story to tell, let it be told.... let your mind go, and let your hand keep tempo with the keys of a keyboard, or conduct an orchestra with quill and parchment... write and we/I will read... explore.... loose myself in the creative world you write... Write on my friend, write on.... Blessings to you and yours. Love and Light, Nina P
