Peripheral mama (sometimes)

I didn't know that mothers go through a type of growing pains. My once cuddly kids are turning into older kids who sometimes want to push Mama away. It seems like just yesterday when I was the center of their world. I know that they need to break away, but I'm starting to feel sad about it. We'll just keep growing together so that we never grow apart.

At least, my little Jillian still grabs my hand and says, "Mama, you're my very best friend." Now I did it. I think I'm going to cry :) My Mama emotions are all over the place.

I better go. My nephew needs a hug. So do I.

They do grow up way too fast. I love your quotes on your Sunday Citar post.

Awe! Jillian is such a little sweetie! They grow up way too fast and it is sooo heartbreaking. I was just telling Dustin the other night that I am going to want another little baby to cuddle as soon as Aubrey starts walking!

Awe! It is kind of sad when that happens. I call my kids bubba. A few years ago I told my middle kid that I wanted her to stay little forever and she looked at me and said, "Momma, I have to grown up but I will always be your bubba" OMG!! I bawled buckets!!

Yes, the time does go fast and before you know it you are posting 15 year old pictures on your Halloween blog of your kids when they were little.....lol. The one thing I tried to do as mine were growing was enjoy each stage to it's fullest and try not to be sad for what was in the past. It's a hard balance especially when those "adolescent" years come along. But each stage has it's own unique and special place in my heart and I treasure all those times we spent together. I, like Vicki, had a nickname for my kids. I called them BooBoo (as in Yogi and), they are all in their 20's and I still call them BooBoo when it's just the two of us.

Can't say about your kids, but mine only went through a phase. Now as teenager, he wants to hug me all the time.

Ahhh, the stages of motherhood. Enjoy each one, including their independent ones...it's a time to marvel at how they are developing as individuals. Now unlike Corrie above me here, my teenagers are just all about them... They all eventually come back. Nothing like a mother's love :)
Have a Happy Day!

It's true, each stage is special. I've found with my kids that the older they get, and the more history we share between us, the richer the relationship. Enjoy!

Awww, I wish I could give you a hug right now. I am learning much from you and your "in between" stage. I'm so glad you share your struggles and your good times with us. Even though they may not hug you now, I promise you that as they get older and leave the nest, they will appreciate you more and they will hug you again. Later on, it becomes more of a friendship. You can sit in a restaurant with your kids (parents) and have a real conversation with them about life and have a cocktail/beer with them too, if you want. It's really great. I love that I can do that with my parents now. Hang in there and take the good moments as they come!

Now you're making me tear up. I know that day is looming ahead of me as well. Seriously, wish I could put a pause on some of the cute stages they go through.

My Kate is gaining some independence that makes me sad, too. I so dread the teen years. I am giving you a mental hug! Hopefully this is just a phase. :)

Oh man, I dread that day! It is coming, and I can't stop it!! WAAAAAHHH!!

Don't stop those hugs Kelly! They may be pushing you away, but they still need and want them!
And eventually, they come back to hugging you!!!

Hold it together mom. (If you don't, I'm liable to cry too.. :(

I loved your Sunday quotes, too :)

I keep looking at Judah and noticing how long his legs are getting. Soon he won't even need me to hold his hands up the stairs...

*sigh*

Awww, go get that hug! I'm lucky that I still get hugs, too. And Little Miss will walk up just to tell me that she loves me, but I know those days will all too soon be gone!

This is beautiful, Kelly. I'm sending a hug to you now. Peace and love, my friend.

Gerri's comment is good. Savor the moments, but there are many golden ones at each stage. Growth or arrested development? Maturity or learned helplessness? Bittersweet is still sweet. (Just cry mama. And then raise those kids!) Young plants are pretty, but bloomers are what we're aiming for.

You've brought a tear to my eye as I think of my girls growing older. There are so many good things to look forward to, so many memories to cherish. :)

It is confusing and hard when they start to pull away...but that means you are doing your job well! And one day, they will come back to you. I feel your pain though.

Awww! I am completely with ya on this! I still love it when my 10 year old comes and sits next to me to snuggle and still wants to hold my hand.

Just wait til they fly the coop for good - empty nest is sad as well as liberating.

Since I'll only ever have one of my very own, I am dreading the day my affections get the shaft. Feeling your pain already....
