Sunday Citar

Matisse

It's Sunday Citar time with Fresh Mommy. Please visit Tabitha's wonderfully creative and insightful blog for more quotes. Today, I found some great quotes from famous philosophers.

The energy of the mind is the essence of life.

Aristotle

The less you open your heart to others, the more your heart suffers.
Deepak Chopra

Compared to what we ought to be, we are half awake.
William James

I have never known any distress that an hour's reading did not relieve.
Charles de Montesquieu

Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
Albert Camus

My favorite, when we try so hard to protect our hearts they become brittle and easily broken.

I like this one the best: Compared to what we ought to be, we are half awake.

I LOVE the Camus quote. When I was in graduate school I was a reader for a great book, "Camus and Sartre: A Relationship and the Quarrel That Ended It," by Ronald Aronson, a foremost Sartrean scholar. I painstakingly read through every page of his manuscript that was initially quite dense. But towards the end of our time together in cafes and via countless emails, a beautiful dialogue was achieved, a wonderful story evolved. After all, Sartre and Camus both wrote fiction. I had always adored Camus, and respected Sartre. But after that book I adored Camus even more. Thanks, Kelly, for this reminder of a beautiful summer of reading.
