Mama's boat is ready

Monet

I'll Sail You Through

My boat rocks anchored
until the time to let go.

Standing on my deck
tentative feet cling steady.

Crouching over lambs
as my back weathers storm.

Grabbing onto my mast
they can jump the waves.

Here's a quick poem on my mind this morning. Remember that great novel The Old Man and the Sea? Just call me "Old Mama and the Sea" as I carry my kids through sometimes rough waters.

Happy Saturday!

I also love the Impressionists artwork. Can never get over that van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime!

Lovely mommy poem - makes me think of my Mom (still my rock in stormy seas)

You love the same art periods as I do. I just adore all the work of these artists of the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist eras.

Thanks for adding a little bit of art to my life...both poetry and beautiful paintings.

It sounded like this had a lot to do with the teacher and other child issues... I love it when I get the intent behind poety. Good luck!

You sound like such a good mom. Every post you make causes me to wish we lived closer. Your insights on life, your poetry, and your choices of art make me come here day after day for mental refreshment. Excellent poem on motherhood.

Sailors In Training...

Watch your Momma
as she sets the course.

Winds don't scare her:
she alters her course.

We can get where we're going
even if we tack.

Hang on sailors!
There's no turning back.

Learn from your Mama:
now is the time.

One day you'll sail
as I watch from the stern.

Winds will come:
storms too.

Some days are smooth:
we'll have those too.

But like Ford Prefect
a sailor of old...

We've learned the secret,
"Whatever you do...

Don't panic."

(A response in verse to your poem... with echos of a 1st graders storm.)

Have a great weekend!

Don

Yes, Mama, I remember. We traveled to Cojimar in 2000. The Old Man was there. He passed away in 2002 at the age of 104. Thanks for the memory.

Ahhh, I always knew I liked you. When I saw the Monet at the start of this post, I knew we were sympatico when it came to art. I love all of the Impressionists and post-Impressionists. Monet is my fave, followed by Manet, Degas, Cezanne, and Gaugin (not sure I spelled the last one right). Monet's series of the Japanese bridge are my favorite.

I spent a semester in France during my junior year of college, and went to visit the gardens in Giverny. Well worth the trip!

I just love this. I thought about my little lamb and how I hope I can always be his anchor throughout the storms of his life. What a beautiful poem Kelly!!
