A poem saluting performers

Tonight, I'm thinking about the privilege of an audience witnessing a performer immersed in artistic expression. I love watching a dancer, singer, or musician perform live. I feel like I have been given special access to what drives the performer's soul. Hope you enjoy this poem!

Passion

Hushed voyeurs await
flashes of flamenco crimson.
Furious heel taps build
waves of thunderous precision.

Crowd voices intensify
guitarist mesh with instrument.
Burrowing deeper into chords
musician stretches the soul.

Submerging into self music
the performer surrenders caution.
Transfixed by intimate spectacle
all outsiders envy such marriage.

A vivid word picture. I recognize that voyeuristic feeling.

I always appreciate your words. It made me think of the last time I attended a recital.

By the way, I love the new photo at the top.

As someone who loves going to concerts, I "get" every bit of this piece. They are such an amazing artform, the stage the canvas for the artist. Your last two lines beautifully delineate the relationship between audience and performer.

I haven't been to a performance of any kind in so long. I used to love going to a concert or a play. I agree that as the audience you do become envious. I remember seeing one of my favourite female singers (chantal kreviazuk) in concert several years ago and wished I could express my sadness/happiness the way she does so beautifully!
