Commencement speech AND Friday High Five

This post is my two for one contribution to both Jenners' commencement speech game and Angela's Friday High Five. Sometimes a girl just has to multi-task :)

My dear graduates, as you are about to embark on the next chapter of your life, please be ready to put your fun loving college days aside. As I channel David Letterman's comedy writers for inspiration, here are my top 5 reasons why you can no longer go back to your dorm tomorrow:
  1. Your father wants to have a meeting with you about the twenty circled "Help Wanted" ads that he thinks would be perfect for you.
  2. After last night's graduation party, the Residence Director is on the hunt for all those who participated in the "keg rolling down the stairs Olympics".
  3. There's a lovesick freshman camping out in front of the door singing through tears, "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?"
  4. If you want to drive your car again, your father suggests that you find some income to pay for gas.
  5. After 30 shots of some mystery alcoholic concoction, can you even find your dorm?
I was a commuter student during college so I don't have any direct experience with dorm life. Writing can be a good (and safe) way to live vicariously as a party happy college student at least in my imagination :)

Update on my stubborn illness: I had 4 vials of blood taken yesterday. They are trying to figure out what is going on with me. I feel like a patient on "House". The good news is that I'm feeling much better today. Hopefully, all this will pass by tomorrow. Sometimes I feel like I'm on "General Hospital", but where are all those sexy doctors? Happy Friday!!

I love the list!!! And great multitasking! Are you sure you didn't live in a dorm in your former life? This sounds about how I remember dorm life being. So fun!

And I hope this mystery illness gets figured out soon! Too bad Hugh Laurie isn't on the case ... or John Stamos from ER...or better yet, George Clooney from ER's golden years! Of course, seeing George Clooney as your doctor might send your heart into overdrive.

I'm glad you are feeling better. Jenners has a great list of Docs for you!

I make it a practice of mine only to visit doctors that are ridiculously good looking. Try it out :)

I LOVE #2!! My husband is an LSU grad and it reminds me of some of his wild college stories. I, like you, was also a commuter so no dorm craziness for me, but I really loved reading your post! :)

We've got a Commuting Club going on here, I commuted too, so lived vicariously through your post today! Hope you stay on the road to recovery and keep feeling better. Have a nice weekend.

Very creative commencement speech! So happy to hear you're feeling better. I had 5 vials of blood taken once, so I feel your pain! Not fun! Hopefully they find SOMETHING with all of your precious blood! lol

Very clever! I like how you got it to fit into both challenges. BTW have you been able to log onto Angie's blog? I haven't been able to link up for over two weeks now. Just wondering if it was just me.

Very funny top 5. I lived on campus for a few years and you hit the nail right on the head!!!

I pray for your physicians' wisdom and your healthy recovery. :_)

Seriously, where are the sexy doctors?!? I'm just starting to feeling like getting out of bed.

Is this any way related to the scarlet fever? Could you have acquired rheumatic fever - same kind of bacteria? (I'm a nurse practitioner student and we're working on pathophysiology right now.) Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

By the way, I had 4 vials taken last week and 4 vials the week before. I think they're just going to remove all my blood and make me well that way! Worked 200 years ago!

Feel well soon! And I loved the speech!

Oh my favorite is the lovelorn freshman. The image just cracks me up! I'm glad I had the chance to live on campus, but ummm I'm not sure I want the wee ones to. Especially Little Miss ;)

Hope you're feeling better soon!

LOL...great list! I would love to go back to college life...oh the days of stress free living. Well, there was the "studying the night before the test" stress. But I would take that over other things I worry about for sure! Ah...to to 21 again...lol

I'm keeping your health in my prayers and my fingers crossed. I didn't live in a dorm but did live with five other girls in my first couple of student years. I can definitely relate to some of these and knowing what I know may never ever let deaglan out of my sight until he's 40:(

I have a feeling I will be reminding my kids of #4 when the time comes.

And I hope you find relief to your mysterious illness very very soon!

That was a fun list. i lived in a dorm for a year and it was about like your list! I almost failed out of my freshman year of college...Hey, I went to OHIO State university. it was party time!

I hope that the bloodwork reveals something that can be easily fixed. I hate that you're not feeling well!
Love your 'speech'. :)

I've dropped by your blog just now after last week, and learned that you are not feeling well lately. You take good care there, and I've said my prayers for you to get well soon!

Great Top 5 and you did a wonderful job of combining two prompts. Dorm life...ugghh. It was certainly interesting with roommate drama. I loved the apartments in college. Anyway, I do hope you feel better and continue to rest up : )
